On my evening jog around my little town, I saw many interesting bimmers just now.
Most interesting was an E36 M3 that looked stock except for new wheels (sorry I didn't get the make) and PORSCHE calipers. They were big, red calipers with porsche stamped in white, on the front wheels. The rear calipers were little red ones with the M logo, so I thought they were stock, but I don't know. The car had North Carolina plates and was parked in Chevy Chase, MD. (It had just been parked because it was making those satisfying cooling clicks - ahhhhhh.)
I also saw:
a black M6;
a monochrome black 5 series, circa 1984 or so, with "dtmpower.net" on the window and a custom, centered, exhaust;
a cherry and cherry red 1989 325is;
a stock black M3;
a new 330i.
It was a nice evening's jog, all in all.
Anyone know about those porsche brakes? Is that a cheap way to get better stops, or is it just a cutesy way? I should probably get new wheels anyway. . . .

I have Jim Powell's lovely blue M3 on my Mac G4 desktop as the background image. I look at it every day. Sure enough, staring me in the face are bright red Porsche calipers.

lol...no comment
I went back to get some photos of the porsche calipers on the nice M3.
I lucked out and met the owner, cleaning his car in the driveway.
Turns out he's a club racer who got the calipers as part of a GP.
He has a friend who knows Jim Powell.
And he's a poster in the E36 M3 section of Bimmerforums.
Small world, as Seedster knows.

Steve D'. from the Ultimate Garage sells them. You can learn all about them at:
http://www.ultimategarage.com/bigbrake1.html
If you follow all of the links you can find out all about installing them:

Of course all of those links are written and hosted by some jag-off named Jim Powell. What the hell does he know?
PS: Although I live in San Diego, my company's home office is in Germantown, Maryland. I'll be there next week in meetings Tu-Th. Unfortunately I'll be pretty busy. But I get out there every couple of weeks. I have a list of people to get together with as long as my arm. We'll all have to do a Dave and Busters night or something.
I'd love to come.Originally posted by jsp98m3
