    Great stuff!! Would be interested in hearing the experience from someone that has done it on a 323i ... I know it's possible, but who has done it and how are the results?

    So at the crank 230hp with all that...

    Stock M3 is 220HP at the crank right? Or 220HP ATW? So does that mean with those mods the 2.8 can reach stock M3 HP numbers?

    Cams $300, Software $289, M50 intake $100, cold Air $80, Exhaust $450...so lets say $1.2k to get 206WHP?

    Whats the highest HP N/A 2.8l here?

    Gary328i = 224whp - 190wtq
    M3Mobbin = 218whp - 196wtq
    Me......... = 215whp - 189wtq (pre-headers&bbtb)

    This may be a completly rediculas question. But what is an M50? I have an OBD1 1994, 2.5
    I was just looking for clarifaction on some of these codes, i kinda follow that the 328's are the m52 and the M3 is the S52.
    Great thread, tons of info. definitly bump to sticky

    The M50 is a 2.5L and came on the pre-1996 E36 cars. In 1996 the M52 was used. It is an OBD2 2.8L, the main reason for the bump in displacement was emissions. They both make near the same power but the 328 has a nudge more torque.

    You don't need the m50 mani-swap as you already have that engine. But on the 328 it makes a hella diff in performance.

    M52 also comes in a 2.5L ... but noticably less power than the M50 2.5L ...

    sorry to bump this again, but what exactly needs to be modified on the manifold to make it work, I was checking Eric's website and it says his manifolds are slightly modified and they sell for $180, but you can get a manifold elsewhere for around $100 bucks. Is it worth the $80 bucks or is it something you can do to the manifold fairly quick.

    Thanks

    Just thought I'd share my thoughts on this mod for cars with an automatic transmission. This is what I have learned when I considered doing this to my car. A stock motor will have an power advantage until 5100rpm vs. the m50 modded motor. You can expect to lose 10-15 lb/ft of mid range torque. After the mod you will still be down about 10 lb/ft of torque to stock motor that has been sharked. If you add performance cams and appropriate cam software the stock motor loses its advantage at 4100rpm. So unless you are willing to do cams, software and the m50 it does not make sense to do this mod. Remember that the transmission software will force the car to shift at 6250rpm even if its been sharked (I have not found anyone who provides transmission software for my car). With the loss of torque at lower rpms and the 6250 rev limit, auto tranny cars will lose performance with m50 manifold.
    Hope this post isnt true

    I just bought a M50 manifold

    Hopefully the software+S52 cams that are going along with help it out.

    I'm auto btw.

    ok so i'm in the middle of the swap and have a question for those of you who've done it. I'm installing eric's full kit. How am i supposed to fit the 1/4" vacuum line that comes off of the manifold hose connector to the bottum of the charcoal canister solenoid? The original hose is much bigger, and there's no way I can fit the 1/4" hose onto the connector on the bottum of the solenoid... I must've missed something. please help!

    how am i supposed to make that work?

    or am i completely retarted and have the wrong hose/connector

    put some lube, water mixed with dish soap, or real rubber lube P80 or something...and push it on.

    it's a tight fit but it'll go. trust me.

    Another +1 for a Sticky.

    I have found this very informative.

    One question now, what is and where do I get the Samco Silicone Intake boot?
    What will it do performance wise?
    Thanks once again bf.c!!!

    yep got it, i used some dish soap and a heat gun on a low setting to warm up the hose a little so it slid on much easier!

    I think I put a link to my SAMCO ASC delete thread at the top but there ya go. By removing the ASC TB you remove a restriction in the intake tract. The ASC TB is physically smaller in diameter than ever other opening in the intake system. The SAMCO boot replaces it with a smooth silicone elbow.

    I voted!

    So my car did not have TC from the factory so would replacing the stock one boot with the smooth one be beneficial? I guess it would be less restrictive????
