ahh ok so you would actually cover it in oil for a time, not just "varnish" it.

surely once you do that, you are gonna have to wash it again afterwards, otherwise it is just gonna pick up dirt super fast.

na just wipe off the residual that doesn't get absorbed with a paper towel. i use oil on every exterior plastic piece on the car...it works better than all those stupid expensive plastic cleaners and dyes. a bit messy though.

Hi, I'm considering doing this on my 323i. Thing is, will it be worth it? Has anyone ever done it before? If no one know's for sure I'll just do it and let all the other 323'ers know :P.

thats a link to my thread on the M50 Swap. Here, ill paste it all in...

I give it a 7 outta 10. Here are the reasons.

    Pros -
Pulls like a train past 4500 RPM
Makes the engine louder and deeper sounding
    Looks cooler than M52 mani.

    Cons -
    VERY hard install
    Good amount of torque loss
    General pain in the ass.

The first install took almost 9 hours. I bought the kit from E36M3E, the kit was well put together, but the instructions were made for an S52. So there were very small discrepancies.

After thee first install, there was HUGE vacuum leak. Wouldnt hold idle at all. It was like a Cammed LS1 with very Lobey cams.

Today, i took the manifold off, and dug around. I found a Rotted Vac line at the very bottom. It connects to the bottom of the Crank Case Vent Tank. I replaced the line, put everything back together, and presto.

I fired up the car once, Stall. Twice, Stall. Third, Stall. Fourth time, I fired it up but revved it to about 1500 rpms and left it there for 15 seconds. I let go and the idle evened out. I screamed with joy 'YES!' I let it run for about 2-3 minutes to adjust. Shut it down.

Then went out for the test drive. I let the car warm up to normal operating temp. Then at a red light, i floored it. It hesitated a little. So i let off at about 4000 rpms in first. I jumped on I95. I left the car in 3rd gear (automatic) going about 50-55 mph until i found an opening. I found one...

I put the gear into second, and slammed the pedal. THE CAR FRIGGIN LEAPT! Before i knew it i had to switch into third and it kept pulling and pulling althe way up to redline. I was amazed. It just kept going and going...

Then i tried a few launches. Id powerbrake up til about 1500rpm then let loose. It would launch a little bit slower and it wouldnt spin the tires, but at the top of first gear, above 4k rpm, thats when it really leapt and started pulling. Overall, im satisifed...

    TIPS

-Label all vacuum hoses as youre dismantleing the manifold.
-PAY ATTENTION! Take pictures, notes, whatever! I made the mistake of not doing any of those, and it took us 4-5 hours to figure out the vac piping.
    -Take your time, be patient.
-While youre down there, clean your ICV. I sprayed it with carb cleaner and shook it around a little, thats all it took.
-Read the isntall instructions a few times, maybe even 10, so you get familiarized.

Just for the record. I ran an SL500 twice yesterday. I got him once on I95, i saw him comming up on me pretty fast, i floored it, and he floored it, but i guess i got the jump on him and he couldnt catch up. Then we ran from a 10mph roll on the turnoff, and i had a half a car on him up until bottom of third when he started pulling and ultimetly walked me hard.

starting to gather parts/hoses to do my swop.

    just got some questions.

on the underside of the manfold there are 2 holes.

The one needs to be plugged. Mine has some sort of electric connection in it, as in the picture below. What was the orginally for(air temp sensor?), and is it sufficiantly plugged as is?

    .

also the one with the tube coming out, what is that?

the electrical connection is a obdI IAT sensor...it will not work as an IAT sensor for your app but it is a sufficient plug for the hole.

the other vacuum connection is where you are going to T off for your fuel pressure regulater (tiny hard plastic line) and your secondary air pump solenoid which is connected to your fuel rail electronically and has black with white stripe and black with blue stripe hoses and a check valve in line...I understand that there is another T required for 328 apps that will go down to what someone described to me as a vacuum storage cannister(??).

    hope this helps.

another question concerning the 3/4" elbows and t-joints.

Are nylon ones sufficent from a longevity point of view.

also where do you guys get your fuel/emissions grade hosing? hardware store or autoparts? what is this stuff called?

I use hose and elbows made by Gates....I get them at a autoparts store...I wouldn't use nylon eblows and Ts... it gets pretty hot under there and they may collapse under the pressure of the hose clamps. actually if your not FI I would only use clamps on the connections under thee manifold...it is vacuum after all and they prob won't come off.

look for 3/4" fuel/emissions line. it won't break down over time.

just to confirm the hoses I need to get....

all measurements are internal diameter of hoses.

    3/4"
    3/16"
    3/8"

    is this correct?
