No, it is from a 6 cylinder. I don't know if there is a similar type of upgrade for the 4 cyl. cars. I am unaware of a difference in M42 and M44 manifolds.

you also should use a fuel or oil rated hose or the residual oil from the crank vent will eventually eat it and you'll be doing it all over again.

Thanks haha. I knew I had it rigged weird and thats probably why I'm getting a sorta rough idle and the CEL... and I used fuel and emission line that works well correct?

As far as ease of install and solid support, the kit from Eurosport. There is also the GB for a kit that is a bit diff., but is less $$$

Check post #4 or 5. Its the same post. I don't know why it duplicated.

Not sure which is easier to install but this one is cheap and seems to have everything ready for you to install.

    Here's a video taken of a M50 manifold I installed into the silver E36 M3.

Camera car is also a E36 M3, and before the manifold the two cars were dead even, now after the manifold it's a whole nother story...

Thanks so much for that video. I now have motivation to put it in after it's been sitting for 6 months, and I imagine gains will be even more substantial on an FI'd car.

Great Thread and thanks to eveyone for sharing their knowledge!

Just thought I'd share my thoughts on this mod for cars with an automatic transmission. This is what I have learned when I considered doing this to my car. A stock motor will have an power advantage until 5100rpm vs. the m50 modded motor. You can expect to lose 10-15 lb/ft of mid range torque. After the mod you will still be down about 10 lb/ft of torque to stock motor that has been sharked. If you add performance cams and appropriate cam software the stock motor loses its advantage at 4100rpm. So unless you are willing to do cams, software and the m50 it does not make sense to do this mod. Remember that the transmission software will force the car to shift at 6250rpm even if its been sharked (I have not found anyone who provides transmission software for my car). With the loss of torque at lower rpms and the 6250 rev limit, auto tranny cars will lose performance with m50 manifold.

I would also get rid of the Eurospeed Dyno graph. It looks to have been altered to favor the mod. We know that HP and torque are equal at 5252rpm. It appears the m50 HP graph should be shifted to right by 250rpm. This would then more accurately show the power losses at lower RPMs. At 4170 rpms the stock motor should have a 10hp advantage. Has anyone else has noticed the inconsistency of this graph? This thread should have a DYNO graph that accurately shows the gains and losses.

Just to be clear, I think this is a great mod for most cars.

Great thread and I hope this helps.

so I got my m50 manifold from a bimmer scrapper for about $50.

I have a euro model 328, but the diff between my m52 and m50, and you USA guys is the same.

now I want to get it installed. called my mac who did my tuning/dyno, and he told me to call a shop a few doors down from him to do it, and then he will do the tuning.

so I called this guy, and he rekons I need a m50 fuel rail too(not talking about fuel rail cover). Bull$hit or not?

    thats what I think too.

I know the euro and USA 3.2 M3 is a different motor, but as far as I am aware the m50 and m52 are the same for both regions.

another thing, is it safe to clean my m50 manifold that I just picked up with soapy water? or should I rather get some engine degreaser?

Soapy water is what I cleaned mine with. It may not be as effective, but it certainly isn't dangerous.

    inside and out?

then I can rinse it with soapy water followed by regular water.

    sounds like a plan.

damn, cant wait to get it installed. and at the +- $50 I payed for the manifold, and the +- $125 for the install, its gonna be the best bang for buck mod ever

might have to wait until payday(25th)

Yes, what is the best way to refirbish a M50 manifold taken from the scrap yard? Eric, you who sells refirshed manifold that looks like new, what do you do with it before selling them?

pressure wash inside and out...and then I coat them with oil and let them soak for a few days. the plastic soaks up the motor oil and returns to like new condition. after a couple days, wipe off the residual oil and you're done.

I have had the worst looking manifolds come out like new this way.

so you just "paint" some motor oil on the outside after it is washed.

is it best to use a non-synthetic oil, ie the cheapest stuff you can find
