Mitchell.. I'll be there with my Dinan E30 Turbo... I don't know his name, but the guy with the E90 and I are going to go out and run then I believe too after the picnic. But now I'm hearing there is a drive afterwards, so I dunno if I'll go with him. If I'm around, I'll record

My boss has a 330ZHP E46 and I beat him by 1-2cls from a slow roll to ~130mph in my E36. I beat E36 M3s by the same lenght. So if a new 330 is faster then a E46 ZHP, then this might be very interesting

    Name's AJ
Will see you too. It is faster than the ZHP E46 but not even close to the M E46.

This is going to be a fun day. 2 guys get to see somebody beat on the new E90 330i. Glad it is still under warrenty!

Don't see that often, that's for sure. Everyone who buys them are usually "older" and don't even know where the powerband is I'm very interested in the E90 though and it's power. I'm going to need a new DD in the coming year so this was one of the cars that was on my list. If it's able to stick with, or even beat an E36 M3, then that's pretty impressive I must say.

Imo, unless the race reaches HIGH speeds, as you and I have talked about before, I don't think your car will win against the M3. Gearing will be your worst nightmare in a race to or around 120mph or so. Plus, when there is food involved this usually brings out the best in people like Mitchell and I

Edit: I figured out a way to disable my speed govenor in my car btw. I was able to rev 4th gear all the way out which should have put me at about 140mph or so. Only problem with how I did it, I can't tell how fast I'm going

the common theory is that it's 10rwhp for every 100lbs of weight difference. not only that, but now that you've got me thinking, i did race an e90 330 when my car was putting down stock numbers...and beat it by a car length and the gap was only getting worse as we gained speed.

but i guess we'll see what happens when you guys race.

I know I am out geared ( me 0-60 6.0 E36M 0-60 5.6) but I have met a couple down to earth guys and will be fun to play for a little bit and meet in person.

I will let you guys drive it if you want.

Yup, this should be a good race. On paper, the e36M3 has the slight advantage. 3175/240=13.229 lbs/hp. e90 330i 3417/255 = 13.4 lbs/hp. The e90 330i is carrying a little (barely) more weight per hp. Couple that with the slightly more aggressive/shorter gearing on the e36 M3, and the e36 M3 does have a slight advantage. Again, all ON PAPER. They seem so close that many other factors like driver/passenger weight, amount of gas, and obviously driver skill will make a difference.

My guess is that the e36 M3 will have an advantage in the lower speeds (<100 mph), and the e90 330i may have an advantage in the higher speeds. Can't wait to see the outcome.

I have no doubt your car would put a hurting on an e90 330i. I still remember your videos against an e46 M3.

correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't a 6 speed have shorter ratios than a 5 speed?
Also question, could you smell him shifting gears? If not it's likely that he was in a higher gear, I know the way the e90's auto tranny works, my dad has one, I drive it more than him, I'm very experienced with the functions of it's transmission.
If he was in 5th, and you were in third, hell yeah you're gonna catch up to him. And it also sounds like he wasn't even racing you. Just 'cause he flew by you doesn't mean he wanted to play.

Just as a side note, in the long run, I believe the e90 330 has a higher top speed no? It is a six speed, but that doesn't neccessarily mean anything.

yeah, that was with my current mods ( http://bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=525521 ). i raced the 330 when i was stock except for a short shifter with which i ran a 5.49sec 0-60 time. we went from a roll too with similar results. the guy was cool afterwards too, we talked and he was pretty surprised at how fast my car was.

what's done to your car that you will beat a 335? That thing should smoke a moderately modded e36 m3.
