Who here has replaced the front wheel bearing with the skf one and drives hard?
It would be best that those who track their cars chime in bc I want to get a sense of the durability of the part that I'm finding is being sold as an M3 replacement even though dealer and ETK show a different part.
Seems a few online vendors use the same software so the database is identical with, evidently, the same "mistakes".
Part #'s:
31 22 1 468 926 which supersedes 31 22 1 139 345 according to Pelican Parts.
Recommended part is 31 21 6 757 024 and made by FAG. (no kidding)
Link to part 468 926 showing the bearing sold by several vendors for M3 including bimmerparts.com:
skf
pelican
Then we have:
Pelican for M3
You confused? I am.

I just got the ones from RRT that are repacked w/ synthetic grease.
You mean they buy the new stock and repack?Originally Posted by magnetic1
Corresponding BMW part # they purchase?
I went to RRT site and the number referenced is for a hub nut for E30's when I look for it at pelicanparts.
Nobody who has replaced their front bearings knows which one they used except for original poser and magnetic?
I've had both SKF and FAG front bearings. I don't remember how long they lasted.Originally Posted by Balthazarr

I can understand why on different cars it would be difficult to estimate the miles used.
Impressions of build quality?
supposedly the SKF's are better than the FAG units

Trés interessant. I would have thought otherwise owing to the workmanship and weight on the FAG.Originally Posted by orijinal poser

So I'm spinnin' my wheels here? (pun intended)
I just pulled a wheel on my car and looked at the bearings.
Pretty flimsy looking for an M3.
I guess any new replacement would be better.
do u have to buy a hub with the wheel bearing or can it be both separately?

It is the whole assy. I think the hub nut is the only other part to be purchased separately.Originally Posted by bimmeracer3
I bought whichever one Turner sells I think it was the FAG unit.
Turner sells the SKF.Originally Posted by hinzm3
I just went with the FAG from Pelican so I can pick up tomorrow.
At $68 and a list of $160+, I'd say that's a fair deal.
I'm pretty sure it was a FAG I still have the FAG Box
I guess they changed then. They now sell the SKF and claim they are the leader in bearing tech.Originally Posted by hinzm3
My experience with Italian metallurgy tells me otherwise, but maybe they are better now.
Still, to me, German parts are preferable.
How many miles on the bearings?
Thanks Hinz.
I have about 7k on them now and no issues. A couple of track weekends on them as well. I think either or will be fine.
These stockers are original, I assume, so they have 110K.
I will know for sure once I take them off having seen what the dealer is selling.
I think i got about 95k out of mine I replaced the fronts.
With over 250K miles, I've replaced *everything* at least onceOriginally Posted by Balthazarr
I remember sourcing the first one (SKF) from the Ultimate Garage, and it came with washers and dustcovers. The second came (FAG) from a parts supplier and was just the bearing/sensor ring assy. Both seemed as good as each other. I don't know about current quality levels, but I'm sure I'll be needing another set soon ...

FS, how many miles did you get out of the rear bearings before replacing?
