aftermarket head unit installed= no sound

I just installed a clarion dvd player in place of my stock bus. cd unit using crutchfields dash kit and wiring harness. everything is functional , but no sound. my guess is that i am not getting power to the factory amp. has anyone else had this problem? if so what did you do. or if anyone knows the wire color for the factory amp signal that would help too. thanks in advance. btw car is an 01 325 i touring.

Here is a thread where some E36 guys had the same issue.....I am not sure if the color of the wires remains the same on the E46.
