I had a piece of duct tape stuck on my roof (dont ask ) and when I removed it it appears to have taken some clearcoat with it. Am I screwed or is there an easy way to fix it?
Maybe i'' use this as an excuse to paint the roof black... any bored photoshoppers want to ps a black roof on alpine white?

Yeah you're going to need to get a repaint if you care about it...why not go for a black roof
Gee I cant believe it would have pulled off the clear. Did you have any wax or sealant on the paint?
Can we see a picture of this? It's hard to believe tape pulled paint off a car. Clear coats are just clear paint, so literally removing enough to compromise it's integrity with tape is pretty nutty. Not saying I don't believe you (I do), just that it's a little shocking.

it didnt pull the clear coat off. Residue from the duct tape was left on the car. Put some paint thinner on a rag and wipe it off.
It is possible only if the paint has failed and is flaking right about now. Ever seen old Beretta cars with peeling clear or 80's Camaros?
no thats because they use acrilic ( if i remember) which is not a very good paint and doesnt stand up to the sun very well, which is why u see all these older cars with huge sports on hoods and what not.
Its been done.Originally Posted by xjeeper
My friend had this paint-on clear coat stuff. I can find out the details if you're interested. Then again, if it's a big strip, just go ahead and paint the thing
