OEM CD Change skips like crazy (99 E36 M3)

Search is down (again) and doing a site: web search didn't turn up anything either.

My new (to me) 99 M3 OEM CD changer skips (actually drops out for a second) any time I go over any kind of bumps (like the bott's dots on the freeway). Stock suspension (for now). The SA at the dealer says they do this and don't run burned CD's in them, which is the only thing I will play/leave in the car. I have a short dealer warranty so I could probably have this changed out if I insisted. Are these things just POS? I've never had a CD player/changer in a car skip this badly before. Thanks.

Mine did not skip at all, even with largish bumps. It very well could be the burned CD, but I have no idea, I would test it with a good cd and see if you still have the same problems.

^ and cleaning it never hurts. Might be some dust on the beam.

Thanks, I will try a commercial CD and cleaning. I run burned CD's in my other cars' CD players all the time with no problems.

What I noticed with the stock CD changer was that it was sensitive to the CD-R itself. It worked well with some, not so well with others. Also the slower I burned them, the less they skipped.

In the end, I just replaced the whole stock stereo with an aftermarket one and have been much happier since.

Mine are all CD-R, I'm just wondering if it will be worth it to complain to the selling dealer, pay the $100 deductible and get this replaced. I do want to just go with an Alpine WMA/MP3/AuxInput/XM Radio HU at some point in the near future. Gotta pay for those Yokohama Advan's first, though.
