The stock air box is a good design... But the hole for the air to get in to the box is WAY to small. The engine can not get air through that small of a hole. I took it out and put in a single CAI. But when the hood was open, and I pushed the gas pedal, the rubber hose that goes to the sensor and throttle body would contract. So I put in another CAI, so now I have a twin CAI. The hose does not move now, and the engine can get all the air it can. It also gave me a ton more mid range and high range power. It also sounds like a beast!! Huge difference. All this I paid 50$.
I would suggest this set up for sure. I will get some pictures of the Twin CAI soon. but not tonight.
Also, look in the exhaust "tippers" at the end of your exhaust. There is a valve that opens and shuts the right "tip" on the exit of the exhaust. Look, and you will see a rubber hose connected to it... CUT IT, and plug it up with a screw! You can hear all your vanos and everything. Also gives low end power because it was made to open up at 2500rpm and higher, and close at low rpm to silence the vanos.

I heard that propping open that exhaust flap made you lose a little power under 2500.. And twin CAI? This I must see..

I dont know how it could lose power. It is getting better air flow. And after market exhaust do not have it, and it sounds sweet.
And yes the twin CAI was a crazyu idea... but it really worked.
I will get pics of the Twin CAI tomorrow, also the exhaust.
twin intake OMG i have to see this

back in your jeep boy, lack of backpressure at low revs = loss in power with that exhaust flap open..
welcome to the placebo effect. it sounds louder so it must be faster...

Hey man, I'm a professional!
it is open by default, so if it farks up it cuases no top end power loss. it does 2 things, adds a little torque below 2500rpm, and only 1-5ft lbs tops, and also keeps exhaust noise down by diverting gases through 1 pipe,Originally Posted by forumjp59
if its bust it may be the electric valve in the trunk, its under the plastic cover to the left of the wheel well.
if the flap stays open once you start the car, somethings faulty.
air pipe connects to the backbox, runs up into the trunk to the valve. then off up the side of the car to the fusebox where you will see the pipe come out to a 90 degree elbow and off under the inlet manifold to the plastic round pressure equaliser, that comes off to the underside of the inlet manifold.
time to trace the pipe and see whats wrong if it stays open.
a few here block the pipe to keep the flap open for the better exhaust note, and rumble as you engine brake.
the loss in power in most cases is un noticed, due to the placebo effect.
aftermarket exhaust's dont have the flap, like my janspeed.
