Hi, I am not certain if my previous post went through.
I have a 1998 BMW 323I. I recently had my battery replaced. The radio needs to be reset. I have tried numerous times putting in the code provided with my owner's manual/papers but it does not work. After three attempts, I get the CODE WAIT only to have to wait the required 1 hour ... every time I put in the code, it doesn't work.
Any advice? All help appreciated!
I am not the original owner of the car. Could the radio code have been changed? It is the original radio....
It is not the right code. The only place to get the code read is from the dealer, I am afraid. It sounds like the next logical step is to go to the dealer and have them read off your code.
turn radio off turn on, press m button until service menu comes up. get me the serial no.Originally Posted by mgimbut
yup press the M button for a while and the serial number will come up...then go to the stealership and ask them for the code...i did that and they gladly gave it to me...if they try and charge u for the code...then screw them : - )

you should be able to just call a BMW dealership and they will tell you, they will just ask for you SN, thats what i did, took about 2 mins...
I doubt theyll tell you over the phone. If your radio got stolen and someone calls the dealership than they have a new radio. When we replaced the battery in my wifes 328i I had to physically go to the dealer but they punched it in for free, took 2 minutes.
They will tell you over the phone, I've done it before. If one dealership turns you down then call another.Originally Posted by mbanks21
Thanks -- I must admit, I love this forum and appreciate all the heart-felt advice.
Anyone have access (CRASH?) to the BMW database so as to inform me of the REAL radio code? I will call the dealership (stealership).
You all are great -- I feel like welcomed into a good family.
Thanks! Martha
i lost my radio code and I called my dealer for the code. they said they dont keep codes for people but they would like to issue me a new code for a little of charge. I asked how much.. the dealer said it's only $65. Can you believe that? they located in the Bay Area! Greedy pigs!Originally Posted by mgimbut

Why would they not tell you the code? The radios are old technology and aren't even worth much anymore. This system is so stupid at this point, it just gets in the way every time I buy a new car.

yeah i think most of them will just give you the code... not much use trying to protect it on older vehicles no one is going to steal a factory radio that old.Originally Posted by Ryan328i
