Right. I recommend applying it to a paper towel instead of splashing it on directly.
I'm curious as to whether anyone has used one of those low cost model airplane covering heat guns to remove the sticker, then used a product called "Goo-Gone" which is much more benign than "Goof-Off" to take the adhesive off?
You have to be careful with the heat, but those small guns put out a controllable amount of hot air. I've used them to remove vinyl tape stripes from cars.
It's not an adhesive sticker, unfortunately, it is printed directly on the vinyl.
funny, i don't remember seeing this on the coupe...i guess i'll check tonite
I want the turbocharger caution sticker. WTB?!

#$%#$%#$. Now that I reread this thread, I realize where I went wrong. I was using goo gone, not goof off. After spending hours scrubbing without really getting much of it off, I gave up and got out the dremel and polishing bit. Even at a slow speed I wound up chewing through the vinyl. Had to replace the visor. Sometime I might try it again, but for now I'm just going to leave them alone.

You used a Dremel on your visor?! I thought I was going out on a limb with the Goof-Off...
my arm was getting tired from scrubbing, and the effect of the goo gone was laughable.

This is great, thanks Vinci!!!
I am saving this page for future reference.
Seems like a great way to clean up the interior.

Thanks, Vinci. Your method worked great for the X3. Note that lacquer thinner seems to work equally well, with no vinyl damage.

Yeah, I am pretty sure that "Goof Off" is just expensive/re-labeled mineral spirits. Glad to hear you had good luck with it.
Interesting, I've been using the potent version of rubbing alcohol and cotton balls for years to do this. No stretching of vinyl occurs. Just soak the cotton and start rubbing the label. At first you'll think nothing is happening then all of a sudden it becomes a stretch, gooey label you can start to pull off. Follow up with a toothbrush to get the rest of the adhesive shadow off, then 303 and its done. Takes about 15 min. each.
Resurrecting an old thread...
Goof Off worked just fine, but I still have a hazy shadow of where the sticker was before. Any suggestions?
My Roadie has no visor stickers, not even the remnants of. Strange. Not quite as strange as having some other dude's stereo code written in my manual, but still strange.
Anyone know where I can get the "Passenger Eject Button - plug" to replace my 12v outlet plug? That has got to be the best mod ever..
I did this using a product called "oops." It worked fine, just took some time to disintegrate the label.
1 of 2 things:
1. You still have residual adhesive left on the visor. Go over the area with toothbrush and goof off very slowly. You'll start seeing adhesive "balls" forming. The vinyl has small bumps. You need to move the toothbrush very slowly to clean them.
2. It could be UV discoloration between stickered area and non-stickered area. 2 area will blend in over time.
From your discription, it sounds like 1st one.
Vinci, good job
Unless the visors are left flipped down in the sun all the time, it's fairly unlikely that there will be much fading between the stickered area and the rest of it. More likely, there is just a bit of decal goop left.
I realized how much nicer it is to have those things gone a couple weeks ago, when some of the Florida guys met up for a BBQ. I don't think anything of not seeing mine anymore, but seeing them on someone else's car shows how much the stick out.
I took the decals off last night using Goop Off. This morning the visors are only mildly less wrinkled. Should I be worried? The car will be out in the sun today, so maybe that will help.
Has anyone ever had the vinyl on the visors not shrink back after decal removal?
Phew! Thanks for the reassurance. I have to admit that worst case scenario, even the wrinkles look better than the decals.
