Is the e21 gunna be the next bmw classic?> or the e30? any thoughts?

Well I think its accurate to say the 2002' is definately a true bmw classic?

    Is the e21 their yet?

Or will the e30 take the cake next?

    any thoughts?

I personally think the e21 is the best of the 3 series, to date (besides e30 m3)

too many things wrong with them that make the E30 a better platform to start with.

So no, even though i love the E21 too, the E30 is just that little bit better in various areas which will see it continue to build on it's cult status.

If someone could easily (and at limited cost) dial out the wild nature (understeer to oversteer) of the E21 it would be a much better proposition, but the engine choices the E30 has still put it ahead.

yea I think the E30's got it, more solid car and most stock E30's look better than a stock E21 (although a well done E21 can look much better than an E30)

i dont think e21 will be the next classic but i guess alpina b6 2,8 will be. modified e21 will look much much better than e30 because e30 has a more rounded front end and very boxy side and back hmmm... and i dont think e30 will be the next classic either. m3 e30 and alpina b6, i think, are the most promising candidates as classics...

E21 is the classic already. Simply it is the extension of the 02 designed that is integrated in somewhat newer form. Some of them are qualified as vintage already and , considering, that not that many of them in good shape running around. Where I live its a real pain to find a mint one. Give it another 5 years and they will have been roted and parted out.

Yeah good points, Yeah e30's definately take the performance aspect for sure,

But the e21's just look like such an original old school bimmer.

you cant say the alpina cars will be a classic, the rareity of them gives them an unfair advantage.

The E21 isnt really an extension of the 2002 either, its much bigger and bulkier than the 2002, represents a whole different car (not to mention the new engine and gearbox combinations).

how about 67 ford mustang shelby gt500? its such a rarity compared to other 60s stangs... but eleanor is still a classic. classic doesnt have to be mass produced; thats what i thought.

Actually, after the 2002 became a great hit for BMW. They tried to model a better BMW after it. And that was the e21. So it might not be an "extension" per say, but it was build off the idea of the 2002.

To me the e21 is nicer looking than an 02 and more unique than the e30, but most important of all its the first 3 series.

    Classic:

    1. Belonging to the highest rank or class.
    2. Serving as the established model or standard
    3. Having lasting significance or worth; enduring.

In That video BMW made introducing the new E90, they showed the lineage and history of the 3 series. Guess who they said was first, the 02.

I think the E21 is the next classic. The only problem is that There aren't that many left. They all get stripped for our few cars left kicking vigorously. Between the E30 and the E21, The E30 takes the cake on the performance of the old school BMW's. But the E21 grabs anybody who is a sucker for chrome. Especially Euro specs.

The classic twos terminated with federalized bumpers. Square tail lights are a downer although the 74-77 euro twos look pretty good. The E21 will never be a winner as US spec'ed. Earlier 320i handling was a disappointment after the crispness of the 2002. Disregarding the low production cars, H's, M's, overweight L's, M1, and the unbeatable 507, the last classics were the E9 coupes, and the next, in the far distant future might be the E24. The threes, as the entry car, even though it can be tweeked and a ball to drive, will never make it.

Owning both the E21 takes the cake although I do own a M20 powered E21. The E21 is more original with the shark nose Sexier curves the front end just says F U the way it points out. More of a car and person connection no computer no power steering on most at least. Everything mechanical even the injection for some. Just my opinion a better and more fun car. I love the E30 just Love the E21 more.

As far as the E24 no never way to big horrible handling and heavy. The E24 looks sexy but handling and power overall it was known to some as a BMWfirebird when it came out. Good looking car but no the M5 E28 is superior in what BMW slogan is the ultimate driving machine.
