how much money do we need to donate to get a bigger server?

im sick of always getting "server too busy" or "search disabled" if we all donated a buck could we get a bigger server? i assume the problem will only get worse with the more new members we get.

Its already a pretty serious server set up

    Hardware: DB: Intel SRSH4, 4-Pentium IV XEON MP 1.6Ghz 1MB (HT as 8), 8-GB PC2100 mem, 5-36GB 10K RPM SCSI HDs, RAID 5 Array -
    Web: (Forum) Intel SRSH4, 4-Pentium IV XEON MP 1.6Ghz 1MB (HT as 8), 4-GB PC2100 mem, 5-36GB 10K RPM SCSI HDs, RAID 5 Array -
    (Images) Dell PE 750SC, Pentium IV 3.0GHz 1MB, 1-GB PC3200 mem, 2-40GB 7200RPM SATA HDs -
    (WWW) Dell PE 750SC, Pentium IV 2.8GHz 1MB, 1-GB PC3200 mem, 2-40GB 7200RPM SATA HDs.

For the members and active membes it should be more then enough.

I just don't understand why the serious server isn't enough? I agree with the OP that there has been more "The server is too busy..." messages lately than ever before. Just want to know if there is anything to do to rectify the problem.

I wouldn't mind if they made it a yearly subscription for a couple bucks.

That might keep some members from joining, and the supporting venders would possibly loose hits as well.

maybe 500 free posts. after that a dollar a month? that way you have like a free trial period that really could last you as long as u needed if u didnt want to be hardcore like all of us. (wonder how many posts id have if OT posts counted)

I think i read in one of the previous posts from the admin saying that it takes up a lot of memory and speed in order to post something. That's why they are trying to keep people from posting useless stuff like "REPOST" and "IBTL" and "+1" and stuff like that.

On some forums, they have premium accounts. Maybe BFC should start something like that with incentives..

OT generates too much traffic. we should get rid of it so bf.c runs better

or just kill the noobs and have an extensive screening process for new members.

click on supporing vendors link and see how many vendors there are, seems like this site should be throwin off plenty of $$ to add servers when needed but 71,XXX members is a lot of potential traffic.

Most users ever online was 2,239, 02-22-2006 at 04:19 PM

There may be 71k members, but the most online at one time was only 2200.
I am pretty sure thats users and visitors. but even if its just users, lets say that the visitors matched members online. so just less then 5000 people using the board at one time.
The servers should be able to handle that.

I dont know if the servers are colocated or not, but if they arent then they need to call up the host and tell them to get their ass in gear and make sure they have the hardware to handle the use.
But if they are colocated I would be running 2 servers, both dual opterons with 4gb ram with the current raid 5 drives.

Hopefully they have it under control, and have someting in the works. The message about the server being too busy has came up for a long time for me.
