I just purchased a 2000 750iL that came with a BRAND NEW cell phone. Although it may be jim dandy to use with the built-in system in the 750iL, I can't use it because my company provides me a Blackberry.
This phone has never been used and was purchased brand new and provided with the car at time of sale. It costs about $500 new.
I'm willing to accept offers for it.
Please post pix of it..

I'd be happy to post pics. It will take a day or so, since I'm not where the car is at the moment.

Good luck getting service with that phone...
ditto
Sorry for the delay putting pictures up. My friend's digital camera had a dead battery. I'm expecting to get one myself that I ordered recently. When it comes in, I'll post pics.
I'm assuming that anyone interested in this phone probably already has service and probably also lives in a metro area with a lot of choices for carriers.

I might be interested, but pics are necessary first.

What we are saying is that if the phone is analog, there are NO carriers that will activate it. You say it is brand new? Unless somebody installed bluetooth in the car, there are no phones that will work with the factory installed setup.
Perhaps, perhaps not. The phone DOES get a signal and, if you try to make a call, someone asks for a credit card number (because I don't have an account with the carrier). This tells me that service is available.
I understand that someone would already have to be on the analog network with another phone and switch it over - that is would be hard (you're saying impossible) to get a carrier to activate new analog service.
I'm figuring anyone who is interested in the phone HAS one already (with service) but needs a new one for some reason. Phones don't last forever. When I say the phone is "new", I mean new out of the box, never used. I do not mean it is a new model. It is a new part that is made for the stock 2000 BMW 750iL.
I will post pics as soon as my camera arrives. Thanks for your patience.

I could have sworn we had digital phones in 2000. Does anyone know if a phone was standard equip on the 2001 E38s? And if so, what model and why does my car I just bought have no cradle or anything for it?

Here at long last are the pictures of the phone. As I mentioned it is not "like" new, it IS new. I bought my 2000 750iL from a dealer two weeks ago and, for some reason, they had put a brand new phone in it.
Again, it is not a new model - it is a new part exactly like what was provided in the 2000 750iL when it rolled off the lot new.

That's a CPT 6000 VR

It will be next to impossible to activate analog service. While there is still a significant investment in analog infrastructure out there, all cell phone carriers are trying hard to get move away from it. They can service an exponentially higher number of customers with newer digital technologies. Analog is for all intents and purposes two generations old. The generation after analog, TDMA digital is being phased out as well as most carriers move to GSM.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

They "might" transfer service from another analog phone to that one, but it is highly unlikely that they would activate a new plan.

I could be wrong, but isn't it a CMT-6000 VR? I had one in my '98 750iL three phones ago. I upgraded to a CPT-7000, then CPT-8000 and finally Bluetooth. There was actually another generation in the middle, the CPT-9000, but they never made an interface kit for the E38.

My guess is that the dealer happened to have one lying around in the parts department that they figured that they would never sell, so you ended up with it.

Sorry to say, the only value is as a historical artifact, or to use as an emergency 911 phone.

That is definitely a CMT 6000 VR phone. I know cause I'm stuck with one of these!
I have the same phone with the same problem on my 2000 E38. Not sure what the heck to do with it.
I hate to say this but you can dump it. Here's your solution: http://www.bimmernav.com/bmw_e38_blu..._retrofit.htmlOriginally Posted by tynash@yahoo.co

My 90 y.o. neighbor has a 2000 e36 with 52K on the ODO. He has a pristine CPT 6000VR phone with all the original manuals. I can't imagine why but if you want it pay the shipping and it's yours. Won't hold my breath but you never know what one will decide they need. Chuckling.
