I have a few questions concerning an error code read on my car. I have a 97 M3 and recently purchased the peake diagnostic tool. It read fault code E9: Catalyst efficiency below threshold, Cyl#1-3

Is this a rare problem? Is it harmful to my engine? How expensive is it to repair?
