graph soon...
well i finally had a little time before work to dyno my car. what an adventure it was....and hot as hell too! the dyno was a dynojet. as soon as i got there they wanted to dyno my car and i said i wanted to let it cool down a little bit then they said we are to busy to wait. it was like a 10 mile drive to the shop. the temp outside was 100 degrees...not the best by any means! it was around 2pm when they dynoed it.
so with the car still boiling they started to dyno it. i told the guy to put the selector in "3" and when it hits 3rd gear hit the gas. we'll he did this and the car kept down shifting into 2nd. then my dumbass realized after 3 attempts it will not down shift if it's around 65mph. so i tried telling him that and he said let me try it in "D" and when it shifts into 4th i'll hit it and it should shift into 3rd. i tried telling him it will down shift into 2nd if it's not at 65mph......well he did it his way again around 50mph. and it did exactly what i said it went to 2nd. so finally after all the back to back attempts on the 9th run he did it my way and it worked. so i only had one good run! i asked for some cool down time and one last run but he said i already gave you 9 runs! i was pissed b/c only 1 of them was legit! so pretty much i paid $80 for 1 run when i should have had 3 good ones!
i'll take pictures of the print out this week sometime and post it. i also took a little video....sounds sweet i'll post that also.
anyway here's the run down.

i know damn well if the car was cold and fresh with the temp like 60 degrees outside it should make about 200whp...or damn near close. i was hoping for more but the car was boiling by the time the final 9th run worked....plus the temp was just about 105 degrees!
hummmm wonder how much more i can make with a 5spd swap.....hahaha just joking guys i'm still gonna do the tq converter and see what she'll do at the strip.

I recently installed S52 cams. I have non-specific conforti software, and I understand that is the cause of the dip at 3500 RPM. Air/Fuel goes a little lean, which probably also would be corrected by specific S/W. Also, the automatic transmission causes power loss.
This is about what I expected.

Hey Byron - The shape of your hp curve looks right, and I think you're on the right track not worrying about it. The addition of "gobs of power" seems to me to overshadow such minor concerns. Put up a dyno when you get done!

i just dynoed and tuned with s-afc my lexus v8, got 207hp and 230trq at the wheels. So i think e36s make very nice power with only a 6 cil and a smaller displaysment.

Just dynoed after putting in s52 cams and software, a little disappointed with the numbers, but i've heard the dyno i was just at was reading lower numbers for everyone, so the numbers may be higher if i used the same dyno for both graphs. However, where is my torque!?!?!? Why is my tq so low compared to everyone elses? Blue graph is my dyno before i put the cams and software on, red graph is with the cams and software. So as you can see, big difference in hp, but my torque numbers are so low
btw, the reason the tq reads high on the 1st graph is because my clutch was slipping which is why the curve is all messed up on the blue graph in the beginning, it should have been a lot lower lol, i have a new clutch now which is why the curve starts a lot smoother, the old torque should have been at about 175
Do you think since my pulls were in 3rd instead of 4th, it would affect my numbers? My 1st dyno (blue graph) was in 4th gear, new one was in 3rd.

Those are ok numbers Tochenzo. Get some pullies and a fan delete and Dyno again in November and you should be up near 220whp.

i already have the fan delete...will definately look into pullies and an LSD later this year...i guess it won't hurt having both wheels spinning on the dyno
also as i said earlier, this was a low-reading dyno so if i go back to the original one i went to with the m50 manifold, my numbers may be a little higher, i will dyno again later in the year as well so it's cooler
pullies should also help with low end torque right?

Tochenzo - No clue why, but your A/F seems rich compared to both mine and M3Mobbin's. Ours both dip down lean towards 12.5 and then climb back up to 13ish at the high revs. Seems odd, as the s/w is clearly installed by the shape of the hp curve.

I was planning on doing a m3 motor but i was eager to get good numbers out of the 2.8l first. I had a large tuning issue that i finally figured out. I was loosing a lot of power when my vanos turned off. Ill post a dyno of what was happening before.

I'm almost finished with my headwork project. I'm installing the remachined cylinder head with a slightly thinner MLS gasket (0.060") and the head has been decked 0.005". Also I'm throwing on a set of long tube Supersprint style headers, Samco intake hose, and underdrive accesory pullies if my budget allows.
Here's the write-up: http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum...d.php?t=591956
I'm hoping for high 230 whp. I'll keep my fingers crossed.
