Question 88 M3 Gear Shift rattle

I am so glad I just found this site. I love my 88M3. However, the gear shift lever rattles like crazy and locally I am unable to come up with a solution.

I did but a short shifter kit on but that didn't seem to change anything.

I would be forever greatful to anyone who can offer a solution!!

    HELP!!

Hmm... I dont really know what could be the problem. You might want to try bimmer.org message board and post a message there to see if anyone can help.

    Hope you get it fixed,

Try this, remove the gear knob, place a small rubber cap over the top of the shift leaver and place the gear knob back on.

This cured my rattle. I swapped for any alloy gear knob and it used to always rattle and annoy me, if I put my hand on the knob (ooer) the rattle would go away.

I replaced my '90's buzzy shifter with a UUC short-shift. It's worked quietly and smoothly for a year now. Good luck!
