Nobody would recertify these machines after somebody screwed with them without any visibility into what they did.

The only people that should be using 30w oil are those that have temps below 20F. The only people that should use 50w oil are those in the desert and see 110F weather and those who auto cross their cars. Everyone else should use a 40w oil.

You don't really understand oil viscosity specifications if you think the number after the "w" is what is influenced by outside temperatures. Read about it.

An informed person’s choice of oil may be reasonably influenced by climate or other factors such as track use, highway driving, short city driving, etc. The typical uninformed person should just follow the “one size fits all” specification of the car maker.

My E90M3 specifies 10W60. I used it while the car was under warranty. Cranked pretty slowly at 0F and warmed up slowly. Have mostly used 0W40 in the 6 years since the warranty ran out, with one 5W40 and one 5W50 change.
I don’t track the car and it does not get hot enough in NH to need a thicker oil. Also, the rod bearings clearance is actually ridiculously tight on the S65.

Welll... Way too ruin a perfectly good sarcastic remark with a well informed informative rebuttal....
