    Angry Engine Dies

I have recently bought an '88 E30 M3. Love it. But a few problems. Latest is the car virtually dies on me with no warning. I pull to the side of the road, shut it off, restart and (4 time out of 5) it is perfectly normal. It does not die completely, with lots of gas and the right gear I can keep going slowly, but seems as though only one or two cylinders are pulling. Or it goes extremely rich as the pipe is black and exhaust smoking. Bad ECU or sensor? Any ideas welcome!

Unplug the barometric pressure sensor next to the airbox. Leave it unplugged.

Also, try unplugging the O2 sensor. I have had a couple bad O2 sensors cause severely-rich conditions.

Sometimes a bad fuel pressure regulator can cause a severe rich condition.

Otherwise, what is the condition of the plugs, wires, cap and rotor? Is the air filter new or relatively clean? Run any Techron or Red Line SI-2 injector cleaner through it?

Mods: This should be moved to the E30 M3 forum.
