There is a guy selling a white on black 1991 M5 here for $17,500. It has 76,000 miles on it.
Nice car?
Sounds ballpark if it's in great shape cosmetically and mechanically.

Seems like a great price if its nice, hell the cars got no miles on it.
I see.
What are some ballpark figures for horsepower adders for these cars?
What mods would you do with ~$1000?
Not a lot of horsepower adders for a S38 unless you are ready to drop big bucks. The usuall chipping and euro cam gears are the best you can do with a stock engine. That should give you an extra 20-30 hp. Then just addresss the exhaust and suspension and enjoy the ride.Originally Posted by B.17.ways
ballpark is 310/276 at high RPMs. but 80%torque available at 2600 or something like that.
with 1k? UUC SSK, DSSR, chip it, and that's all you should need.
Maybe chip it. If the rubber is beat, replace it with stock bushings. Its an M car, drive it around the way the engineers intended it to be for 10 or 15k miles before you mess with it.Originally Posted by B.17.ways
Don't worry, 340hp should be enough to keep you busy for a while
310 for the US models, 340 for the Euro 3.8. 250-260 rwhp is normal for a US 3.6.Originally Posted by DrStrangelove
As far as price, you didn't give much info but it seems right on, even low for us East Coasters. I think good cars could be fetching $20k in the coming years. If you've got a place to drive it, BUY IT!~!!

Sounds good to me, With those low miles I would think it would fetch a bit more. What is condition and maintenance history. Has it been tracked or was it a prima donna in someones garage? As far as modds go there really isn't that much to add as the factory has pumped this boy up already. Don't forget you are already putting out 90HP /liter.
If your not leading your following.
or about what a 535i does with a 5psi turbo =]Originally Posted by skateparks

A lot of us a putting down more than that...275+ with some mods.
And I think Greg is has dyno'd at close to 290.
We really need more info on the car. If it's in good condition with proper records it's a good price.
My car put down 250hp before it's rebuild. That was with an engine in terrible condition. If I was going to spend $1k I would go for the cam gears and a chip. this really improves mid-range torque. After my rebuild I put down 261 pounds of torque at the wheels. That's roughly 310 at the crank, 15 lbs. more than a euro .

Shhhh, the beast is sleeping
I have a friend who bought a 91 with almost the exact same miles for a similar price a couple years ago. 15k miles later he was putting $5k into a top end rebuild. 76k miles does not guarantee it willbe better than one of the many with about 100k-120k in the $12k range.
Seems like a fair price to me, but if it were my money, I would pick up one of the 100k+ milers that has hadsome of the bigger $$ jobs done (suspension, valves, AC condensers, whatever).
True, they usually need the top done around 100K.Originally Posted by Cacatfish
And yea my cars got 150K on the clock but with everything I've done its gotta be worth something around 20+K.
They aren't cars for poor guys but when they are dialed in there really isn't much to deal with.
