    Gas smell inside car

a 1994 525 has developed a gas smell inside the car. It really doesn't smell much outside and no leaks can be found. Is there a canister on top of the tank that leaks? Would a plugged faulty gas cap that won't breath cause the fuel smell inside the car?

correct me if I'm wrong, but if the E34 is designed like the E36 and E39, you can access the fuel sender and pump units by lifting up the rear seat. If one of the rubber hoses has a faulty clamp, then it will leak a bit of gas onto the top of the unit and make your interior smell mysteriously of gasoline.

I had the exact same problem in my E36 325is, and I fixed it by replacing one of the crappy crimp type hose clamps with a screw type one (it still boggles me as to why they ever used those crappy crimp type ones).
