Few more question about the 318

Well I have been looking for a 318 and need to get like a week ago but haven't find one. What I have been looking for was the M44 96-98 years but now I want to expand my search to the M42 94-95 too. How are those engine compared to the later ones? Also does the OBDI do a pretty good job? I need a realible car. I now willing to get an older one with around 110-120k on it. I know these cars can last so hopefully I'm looking in the right direction for my daily driver as I need to retire the 951. I drove an 97 with 96k on it but man that thing was one big pos. Making sounds from everything and the small time dealer wanted 8k for it. What should I look out if anything different then the M44. Thanks

The M42 is rock solid. I bought mine with 109k on it and now it has 153K and still runs like a champ.

IMO the M42 is a better choice than the M44. Though down on displacement, much more components are forged. The highest mileage 318 I've seen was a guy in high school with 325k miles. He sold it to a junkyard because the tranny went out.

    i have a m42.

when i bought the car, timing chain broken and i have a replacement. My old one felt alot stronger than this one.

I guess it all dependson how its maintained.
