Hi all,
Hey can you guys do me a favor? When I bought my car it had 2 straps and no shock on the glove box door, well I bought the shock and clips but I am not sure how they go on, it has a funky clip to it that i've never seen before, I will post pics if needed. Can someone snap a pic of the shock mounted and post it up for me?
Thanx so much!

yeah it does just drop. even the bently manual shows that they just drop. did the people that sold you glove box shocks also sell you headlight fluid?

So NONE of you have the 14/25 combo on your cars? That clip looks really funky to me and I am wondering how to put it on....

I have it too. They were funky to put back in. Find a write up that describes how to change a mircrofilter. It'll show you how to take out the glove box too.

the newer e34s have damper on one side of the glove box and a strap on the other side. not sure what the cutoff date is for manufacture. mines early (11/88) build and doesnt have a shock. from the drawings ive seen a retrofit should be possible. dont quote me on that.
as for the glove box falling off in back.. my rear hinges (#6 in the realoem link above) were completely missing when i bought the car. dont ask, the po was an moron. but that sounds like the problem bman10 is having. check to make sure their even there. they are easy to put on but a pita to get adjusted just right.
Not finding anything so far, Liquid can you post up a pic of yours?
Thanx!

I want a glove box shock too
That clip is just like the one on my E39 trunk and hood "springs." So I think 25 pushes on 14 and slides onto the pin where 25 will engage a slot cut into the pin to hold the assembly in place. I hope this helps.
now I know mine isnt missing the strap its missing the shock

Yes I think it does, so are you saying that in the pic, part 25 is reversed?

in the early cars it does. However, you CAN REPLACE the left strap with the shock, as I did in my 1993 E 34 525i...just got tired of that damn thing dropping and flopping (german engineering???!!...hmmm...whatevs...pissed my pants when I realized the door panels were fiberboard and all the clips were one time use only). The shock goes in with a simple nut/bolt at the top and clips onto the same pin at the bottom that the strap was clipped onto. Easy 5 min mod.
