E32 heater & climate control issues...

    Greetings all,
Although I've been watching the forum for a long time, this is my first post--I can generally find what I'm looking for without posting a question--as Solomon said "There is nothing new under the sun" and it's probably already in the archives.

It's been said I have many control issues, but this is one others can help me with :-).

The climate control always blows hot air on the passenger side. Even with the temp all the way down on a hot day. I have replaced the heater control valve by the firewall (needlessy painful operation) expecting that it was probably sticking open. No avail.

    1. If not the valve, why do I have constant heat on the passenger side?
    2. Where can I learn the theory of operation for this system? If I knew how the system is supposed to work, I could troubleshoot it myself. Now I'm trying to find temp sensors, test current going to the valve solonoids, etc. Bently's manual gives no troubleshooting guide or theory of operation, only how to remove and replace problem components once they've been identified.

By the way, it is a 1990 750iL, Black, cosmetically excellent, purchased for $3000. Pretty happy with the deal.

    Thanks for your help.

If the radio was ever out of the dash the control motor that changes between hot and cold may be broken off its mount. best e32 reference I have found is : http://bmwe32.student.utwente.nl/ there are some of the best pictures of repairs just look under the headings on the left. hope this helps.

    Johan & Sean are great!

I don't know how or why these guys find the time to take apart their cars and photograph it all, but I'm thankful that they do. Very helpful. Thanks!
