FWIW: SuperSprint install on 2.8 Coupe

I replaced my stock muffler (cat-back) with the 304 stainless SuperSprint 76mm tip exhaust. I'll post a few pix of the general process. (I'm not up to speed on adding several JPG to one attachment so forgive me for the multi-post)
Biggest challenge was measuring where to cut the stock pipe to attach the S/S. I cut the pipe approx. 6" behind the cat. with a Sawzall®.
The connector pc. slides on and then the exhaust is hung and you spend about 30 minutes trying to get it to center in the rear valence cut-out.

SuperSprint installed. ALL hardware was included this time. I installed DTM's on my M Coupe last year and had to buy about 6 8mm nuts and washers that were missing.
The tip doesn't center in the rear cut-out but it's close enough for Government work.
(Yes, it's missing the spare tire. Just refer to the earlier "reasonable NJ dealer" thread for that story. Spare tire "on order")

    Finally the finished product.
Sorry for the self-serving combo photo. (I guess I'm a proud Papa.. or insane)

That's how I want to start the day,"Hmmmmm, should I take the Coupe, or the Coupe?" Muaahhhhhhhh.

Gorgeous cars. Nice job on documenting the install for those who might need it. And nice house. I really like that front porch layout. Wish I was still in PA sometimes. I'd have to find a wife to own a SFH here in D.C.

I was just about to say «cool, no spare, just like me»... and then I remembered... :12:

Bend the hangers for an exact fit. I can't stand it when an exhaust isn't centered.

It's bugging me right now just knowing you're driving around with the exhaust un-centered.

    How much is it off?

Wait a minute... is it me or does the pipe look crushed? Maybe that's normal.

That's normal, and the 2.8 (and 3.0, ie- my car) only have the exhaust exiting on the left side...

The "crush" is a crimp so the exhaust pipe will pass under the rear X-member. I freaked when I pulled it out of the cardboard box and wondered how they could drop a 4x4 on it.

It's off C/L by about 1/2" (RH about 1/2", LH about 1")and I've done all I can do. The S/S is much narrower than OEM. The distance from the RH (pass side) bracket to the rubber donut is about 6" side to side and up 4". I've adjusted it to the max. and the donut is actually pushed sideways trying to make-up the diff.

I'll have to fabricate a LH side bracket so I can adjust it, if it will let you sleep at night.

Sidenote: The OEM pipe is freakin' thick, toasted one DeWalt metal Sawzall blade in the cutting process. Good build quality on the OEM but a BUTT Ugly tip.

The OEM exhaust is heavy, too, when compared to most aftermarket systems, as well...

Just kidding about the off-center pipe.

The pipe looks really nice. I've always liked the SuperSprint exhausts. So... how does it sound????

Actually it bugs me.. after you drive and it heats up and the expansion kicks it over to the drivers side and "sort of centers up."

Sound: It's still in the break-in period but is a getting nice, deeper tone during cruise and it's beginning to growl a little on hard acceleration. When they wear in, you get a deep burbling growl when you let off the gas in second gear that's sort of unique to Italian exhuasts IMO.

Maybe it's unique to exhausts beginning by «Super», because my SuperTrapp does that (the way you describe it at least!).

All exhausts do that as they break in, even the stock BMW exhaust changed tones as it broke on my car before I got rid of it...
