Strongly suggest the Stewart pump for anyone doing a replacement. It's more expensive, but it gets you better flow and will outlast the car.
This is the route I went with.

Replaced the water pump today, much to my surprise the old pump had no plastic impeller but it was metal, original BMW logo stamped into the impeller and p/n 1731359, and W+P stamped into the impeller, then another small number like 1401 or 1405, which probably means week of production 14 2001 or 14 2005.
It was really time, the impeller could almost not be moved by hand because of the bad shaft bearing.
Took me all in all about 2 hours.
Then I noticed that also the Behr fan clutch has a mark produced in 1998, so it is still the original one from factory. Still works well, but better have to prepare.
    As I still have 2 new visco fan clutches for my E32 750 M70 engine, I compared the dimensions/spec, fits 100 %.
Online I found the details from a German aftermarket maker DASIS for the M3 when searching with the M3 fan clutch p/n, for their model 058250N they mention as comparison part numbers the numbers for my M3 11527505302 and also for the E32 750 M70 11527502804. Nominal data also match: SW 32, thread 22, diameter 160mm, hole distance 127mm, 3 holes to fasten. ETK mentions for the M70 visco in addition 92 degree Celsius, nothing is mentioned for the M3.
Shogun tricks and tips for the E32 series are HERE!
