    Greetings from the UK...

...good board guys, been reading for a while, but only just decided to start posting.

Please don't think I'm only on here to advertise or anything, but I'm looking to turbocharge my M42 over the winter and I've been worried about the 10.5:1 compression ratio.

I've been looking into getting a set of forged pistons made up and have found a company here in the UK that manufactures pistons from scratch, based on your needs... I was chatting to them yesterday and they want me to send a piston in after I've measured deck height of the crown etc... Rather than just making a shorter version of the piston to lower CR, they work to dish-out the crown and keep the dimensions as close to the original as possible.

"Accralite Pistons is a company specialising in the design and manufacture of small and medium batch quantities of forged pistons in the UK to either existing designs or designs to suit our customer's specific needs. Accralite Pistons are supplied complete with rings, pins and circlips chosen to suit the piston's application and are boxed in weighed sets. Accralite Pistons are constantly investing to give you, the customer, the best-forged piston available whether it be from stock or a purposely designed and manufactured piston. Accralite Pistons heat treatment procedure is based on T6 international specifications that gives reduced stress, maximum hardness and a greater working life span for pistons made for you, the customer."

Basically, I'm looking at £200UK per piston at least, if I get myself a set made up, most of which goes into research and design. - If more than 4 people sign up, we're looking at about halving that, plus the dreaded VAT. That equates to about £470UK for professionally researched, designed and manufactured forged pistons down to a suitable compression ratio for turbo applications... Possibly even lower with more interest.

In case you think I'm just here advertising or something I'm not going to put any contact details or anything, but just reply here if you're interested. I've asked on a few other BMW Forums I'm a member of too, just to gauge interest.

    Cheers folks!

Welcome Omni, sounds interesting What does your timeline look like? Do they make pistons for SC applications? And have you checked out any other companies (maybe based in germany)?

Timeline looks like a straight line labelled "saving up for GT25R", stretching off into the distance!

Go with the GT28R, you still have a choice from three compressor covers.

But there's a GT25R at a bargain price, brand new, with a scratch on the alloy casting... GT25R should be finr up to about 240bhp on an M42, surely?
