I have this knocking sound that climbs with the revs. In terms of performance, I can't tell any difference, but my mechanic says there something wrong in the head.
He's an excellent mechanic, but he's never worked on a euro 3.0L before. He wants to do some research and find out exactly what he's up against.
I thought I'd help him out by asking the members of this forum if they have the info for this motor: torque specs, etc, etc...
With 45000 miles, does my motor require a valve adjustment?
Also can a non-dealer perform a valve adjustment and VANOS adjustment?
Are there any other issues that need to be addressed before my engine "goes under the knife"?
BMW specifies a valve adjustment every 15,000 miles on the Euro motors (3.0 and 3.2). The VANOS isn't really adjustable, just replaceable.
The Bentley manual doesn't cover the euro motors. Are there any repair manuals specifically for them? I'd consider getting one (motor) if I could have a spec reference to work from.
this may not apply to euro engine but it could be the timing chain, (thats what it was on my 3.0 M3 engine, either way get it fixed fast)
Could this sound be the symptom of a much-needed valve adjustment? I don't know when a valve adjustment was last performed.
Does anyone have a tech manual for the S50 B30 and/or S50 B32 euro engines? I can get them translated if they are in German.
Please help.
Get a BMW TIS on CD-ROM. This is BMW factory manual on CD-ROM. Will cover US and Euro cars.
They can usually be found on Ebay.
