Need help finding Intake Air Temp. Sensor

    Anyone know where it is?

In the Bentley manual, it shows a connector to the right of the intake hose. There is a connection next to the hose....just not the one they point to as the Intake Sensor.

    So where is mine?

I am getting a check engine light with the Intake air sensor as the culprite. It looks like it is loose since the check engine light blinks every so often.

    It's a 95 M3.

Correct it's too the right side of the intake hose (towards the passenger side, or the intake manifold), also connected to the OE airbox. If you have a conical filter, try and locate it. It may have just undone itself somehow.
But if you have an OE airbox, and you're looking at it from the front of the car, overlooking the engine bay, it's to the lower rear left side of the airbox. Good luck, CYA>PM3

    I believe...

The air intake temp. sensor is located near the throttle body housing. May have to remove intake boot and thottle body housing to get better access to it.

According to Bentley, the intake air temp sensor is attached to the Intake manifold just to the right of where the Intake hose enters the manifold. Of course, not on the M3 because their picture matches everything but the non-existant temp sensor on my car.

2 Other people have told me it is at the back of the airbox with two hoses attached to it. Haven't taken it out yet to see if that is in fact the sensor.

John, are you sure it is below the Intake boot where it attaches to the manifold? I do not want to mess with anything unless I have to. Taking all that apart looks like more of a pain then I wanted to deal with to jiggle a connector.

This sounds familiar to me... I believe somebody once told me it was underneath the intake manifold close to the throttle body... on the side that's not easily accessible... between the throttle body and the firewall... I'm only guessing here.

I think it's mounted upside down.
Let me get this straight... You are swapping out parts designed by hundreds of engineers that get paid thousands of dollars for something you bought at Pep Boys because your buddy who doesn't have a job told you it was 'better'?!?

I don't see anything that even looks like it (as if I knew what it looked like) anywhere around the throttle body.

You mentioned the firewall, that's not anywhere near the throttle body.

    So, I'm still lost.

If you were to stand on the driver's side of the car... looking at the throttle body and intake manifold. I think it might be on the right side of the throttle body (the side towards the firewall/trunk of the car, not the side towards the left or headlights). I believe it's located underneath the intake manifold close to the throttle body.

I don't have my bently manual anywhere around. I remember vaguely researching it tho cause I wanted to find away to tap it to display it on the OBC in the car.

Just remove the intake boot, hfm, and throttle body if necessary. You wont screw anything up just as long as you put all the hoses back together and secured.

I dont know 100% sure how it is on the 95 but on the post 96 M3s, the intake temp. sensor is inside the intake manifold right after the throttle body. Kevin, aka Kevlar, is on the right spot but he as a '98 or 99 I believe. You may have to get a mirror to see if it underneath the throttle body housing or the intake manifold.

I have the bently manual as well and I can't really follow up information on it due to the lack of info. especially the position of sensors and engine management.

Awhile back, a guy email me asking the location of the air temp. sensor for his 95 M3. He acutally took digital pic and emailed it to me and told him that was the one. Unfortunatly I do not have that pic since I'm on vacation.

I'm telling ya guys (Jon even you told me this was an intake temp). On the 95s there's a sensor attached to the airbox (lower rear of it, towards the passenger (left, if you're looking from the engine bay) side of it.
They put a whole on the 95 aftermarket heatshields for this too! However, on my 97 3.2L there was never anything like this. So, unless I am confused and this is a different sensor, just take out the two bolts that hold your airbox in, and notice what will be holding the airbox still--the sensor. This is assuming I understand correctly, in that your car is a 95 3.0L...CYA>PM3

Yes I told you that but...

I was completely wrong. I read the schematic for the 95 M3s and the air intake temp sensor is NOT at the intake airbox. Nick G. from the M3 digist also knows about this and told everyone that the air intake temp. sensor on the 95 M3s isn't located on the airbox while I thought it was.

It was a complete misunderstanding since the Bosch engine mangement systems used on the V8 (M62 and M62TU) engines had their air intake temp. sensor on the airbox and I thought since the 95 M3 used a Bosch Motronic DME, that the sensor was on the airbox but actually is a Thermal swtich coolent or valve for the throttle body.

    Interesting discussion.

In any case, my car is going to the dealer fix a few nagging issues under my extended warranty. I think I'll just add this to the list.

Thanx. I finally know where the sensor is and that I can't reach it easily.

I haven't gotten the bike yet but still thinking of getting one but that won't happen till next year.

And yes I'm in Glendale and having a good time although watching the news on the ENGERY CRISIS is pissing me off. I'll be taking part in my cousins wedding on Sat. and going back to ATL on Sunday afternoon.

    Don't worry...

about it. A LOT of people even ME misunderstood the location of the sensor but at least now the people that read this post will know the true location.
