I will be purchasing an X-Brace for my '97 M3/4 based on the reviews from many of you.
I have heard that there is a BMW part that is a buffer or something similar that fits on the X-Brace. Is this true? Should I purchase it for my X-Brace? If so, does anyone know the part # off hand, my dealer is clueless.
Thanks,
DJ
No, forget the buffer stop.

I wouldn't. I heard it would not make a difference unless you put the X-brace on a z3.

No, you don't have to put it on. I did for the same reason I painted the brake calipers red, it looks good. (not that anyone will see the stop unless it is on a lift, but I know it's there.)
No matter where you go, there you are...
You got pwned.Originally Posted by badmonkey

I didn't need a buffer stopper on my 97. Go ahead and bolt that f'r on and throw that car as hard as you dare into a corner.....

I have an xbrace and i like it. Doesn't really feel any different but it provides some nice protection for the oil pan.

Don't bother, it doesn't make a difference.

I'm not a damn mechanic and the "BMW MotorSport" is for what ///M3 stands for, not a damn mechanics degree. Besides there is another fellow ///M3 member on this thread that is asking the same question. Owning a ///M3 doesn't mean we know every single piece that make our cars.Originally Posted by badmonkey

Damn I've had a X brace for over 5yrs now and always wondered what the little welded tab was for. I always thought it was a convertible thing. Anyways thanks for that link.Originally Posted by nordique14
I got my x brace from Pacific BMW two years ago. It came with the buffer stop in the box. I just thought it came as part of the kit.

pointless, supposedly does something on z3's but i had to take it off an m roadster and its sits as far away as it does on my car.
I too purchased an X-brace from Pacific BMW... prolly 3+ years ago. It had the buffer stop. I knew no difference and it's still installed with no ill effects.Originally Posted by andym3
The car never has seen a drag strip although it is auto-x'd often. Never noticed it to be a bad thing.

I forget who it was, but someone painted or marked the stop with whiteout and did some hard acceleration and shifting.
Nothing was found to have been transferred from the stop.
