    The (shameless) '95 LTW-Replica thread

    What were there...125 '95 M3 LTWs? 85 to the US, I believe.

Probably, there's down to 70 left in the US, I would guess. I see them used for 30+ thousand dollars, and...well...that's just not gonna happen for me.

So here I, Effervescent, have shameless started the '95 M3 LTW-Relpica thread. If you are a fan of the LTW...if you have created a replica, are creating one...plan to create on...this is your thread.

Let the naysayers call us posers, wanna-be's, lightweight losers. We are immune. It's our car, we paid cold hard cash for it, and we wanna paint a big bunghole on the hood and call it "anus edition", so be it.

For me it's a visual thing. I LOVE how the LTW looks. I am not trying to recreate a LTW (it's doors, it's suspension, it's weight), I just want the look of a LTW.

My baby started out as a 1995 M3 in Alpine with optional stamped, painted staggered LTW rims from the factory. Not a bad place to start. Then came the Motorsport moulding badges off ebay, Motorsport decals (front and back) from Turner, and an X-brace off this site.

I'm saving up for the door sills and glove box trim. Eventually, I'll find a Motorsport strut bar. I'm happy with my black leather Vaders, stereo with CD changer, my pristine and quiet-ing trunk carpet..so they will remain. Splitter and rear spoiler will come in the future as well.

I've got a long way to go, but that's half the fun.

    Anyone eles?

Same width as stock but with a thin strip of faux CF and a badge very similar to the white/flagish moulding strip. $91 a piece.

my bro had a yellow light weight with even parts of the motor but lightweight is what is because it came out that way from factory and rare...other than the 8qt oil pan and strut brace..i think the rest of the mods would be a waste of money and there are better options out there..if you wanna sport the flag..everyone is doing it now..so it's all good..dont go too far..all that carbon won't do anything for you

I sometimes wish I had an alpine M3 and I would create my own LTW replica w/a twist.

    95LTW,

Any pics/input you have would definately be helpful.

    Did any have sunroofs?
Did the trunk spoiler have a brakelight?

If I remember correctly from what I have read, they were hand built and came around 260-280 hp stock.

"Exclusive to the American market, the M3 Lightweight sold 122 units... The Lightweight ran exactly the same 3-liter/240-bhp motor and five-speed transmission as its contemporaries... There was no sunroof... Another hidden benefit was the under-shielding paneling, which cut Aero drag."

From page 247 of BMW: 3 Series: Enthusiast's Companion. Hope that helps.
