We have a 1999 Z3 2.3L and we love the car.
Problem we've been having:
Fan blower control switch on the control panel - fan only blows on high. Does anyone know what may cause this and what the solution would be? Last week it did the same thing then i fiddled with it a bit then it worked again. Then it went out the other day.
Since it blows on high I thought maybe it would be a faulty switch, not the fan motor. Could it be a blown fuse? I hope that's all it is.
It's a common problem with the blower resistor pack on the Z3s. You can try cleaning the resistor. More info in this thread. Good luck.Originally Posted by pdw1970

You will until you actually try to mod it.Originally Posted by pdw1970

I just read about the electrical system last night trying to fix a similar problem in my 1986 535i. When set on high, the fan blower switch gets direct battery current 12v dc. So, if it works on high, there is nothing wrong with your blower motor. Settings below the high setting pass through a resistor pack, reducing current for the lower fan settings. So, you probably have either a bad resistor pack, or faulty wiring through the risistors. Good luck!Originally Posted by pdw1970
