Ok guys i wanna sell my E12 and buy an E21. I keep talking to BMW guys and they say that the E12 sucks compared to the E30. I am confused. I love the way the E21 looks. I think it is the coolest looking Bimmer. But will it be an Pain to work with. What should i do?
Buy one and find out for yourself.
(seriously)
whats the price i should pay for one in a OK condition
Depends what your looking for. You can pay 600-16000 depending on what type of car you want. I know of an original B6 Alpina in close to mint condition and the guy wants 23,000!! I would say realistic cost for a real nice car in good shape would be around 2500-3000, for a stock car. You get into the Alpinas, Hartges, and some of the mint modified cars your going to pay in the teens, but these cars are a lot of fun when they're really fast.
I just want a stock E21, Year does not matter, either does color for around a $1,000
u should be able to find a nice running E21 for around $1,000.....might take some searching because prices do fluxuate a lot depending on what the seller feels their E21 is worth.
some people have picked up awesome 320is's for $200, and other people have picked up very trouble-some 320i's for +$2,500.
btw, IMO, the E30 is pretty superior to the E21 (better suspension & chassis design), but none of that should really matter unless you want to build a relatively cheap race car.
I picked up a 83 is for $500.00 and just needed to pass smog and the clutch was slipping (parted and sold it, but kept the 5 speed). I say around 1k for a good running one. How you got to find what motor you want? 1.8L or the 2.0L? 1977 to 1979 has the 2.0L and the 1980 to 1983 has the 1.8L. If you want one, start looking and when you find one, test drive it and get it and then sell your E12.
If I were going to buy an E21, I'd buy this one . Looks like a clean car and a great deal. If there is anything I've learned about cars since restoring my E21, its this: Start with a nice car rather than a total turd. You will spend much less money in the end and be far better off. I would never buy a US spec E21 again. I spent a ton of money on euro bumpers and body work to make my car look like a euro car, rear disk brakes, rebuilding my motor (I rebuilt it back when I was in high school before I even knew the 323i existed), and I still want a 6 cylinder and will eventually drop my m10 for one at great expense. If you can afford it, start with a 323i and get all the good stuff.
Does anyone know the original colors offered on a 82 bmw 320I? getting ready to paint, would like an original color if possible. Thanks
it does not really matter. i just hate driving my 4 door. even though its awsome for drifting. I have to sell the E12 before i buy an E21 because my stang is my main car, this is just a car for drifting and rallying. The best thing i could do right now if trade my E12 with someone for there E21. If anyone knows anybody who would do this...please tell me.
damn, look what I found in my area...

Thanks for the help, where did you find that chart?
www.autocolorlibrary.com has color charts for the e21.
Ascot grey is the color similar to what im respraying with. i love that color, only im getting it from the bmw dealership by my house..comes off the newer 7 series etc.
Greekstyles E21. "E21 Trella"
Your notion of "this car sucks, I want the other car instead" sorta troubles me. That is, an E12 is a great car, and much different from an E21. Although if you don't like what your E12 is about, sell it to someone who will appreciate it...I guess what I'm trying to say is that it's an apples to oranges comparison, man.

I paid $250 for my Polaris silver 83. It has a clean rust free body with decent paint(clear peeling), runs ok but has an off and on fuel leak near the pump. I have always liked them.
I like the Mustang. I had an 86 ttop GT for 5 years before it was stolen: Long story involving a popular mustang tuner who was my former employer.
