Since I saw the "So what car you drive and how many miles are on it?" thread, I was wondering the same for E30's.

I think its about time for that supercharger available for your car J.C! : Dont worry about mileage, you own a BMW.
1996-LuX-M3 goodies to the ears and adrenaline.
supercharger? me? that's crazy talk! i think i'll just stick a chip in her and call it a day with mods. then maybe a s.s. and maybe after that i'll go for some springs and.........hey, this is already starting to get out of control. now look what you've done.

'88 M3 144960 miles, I'm going to hit 145XXX on the way home from O'fest!
I'll tell you what, I started to get the mod fever. Then I went to the track. Let me just say that my money will be spent at the track now. It is amazing what an E30 can do stock. Out of the box, it can be such a fast car. I'm just trying to fix the loose nut behind the wheelOriginally posted by Canatro

I would suggest everyone try going to the track before doing heavy modding (or even light). You learn lots, and become tons faster than you would by buying mods.
Sorry for the ramble I know how addicting it can be to mod ones own car!
i hear that broutha. i used to have an m3 that i started going nuts on. modding it just to the point of getting a supercharger. FORUNATLEY, i had to sell it before things got too out of control. my next mod for that car was going to be driving school.
now that i'm driving an e30 325i, i have to admit, i think i love it even more than the e36 m3. i don't know what it is but this car is awesome. problem is that i need some repair work on her so i can't exactly push it yet. i changed some stuff but she still runs a little labored. (too many noises)
speaking of which, if i brought her to a dealership, do you think i would get pummeled in repair costs? i mean, it is an e30 and the parts "should" be much cheaper but the labor rate is defintiely more expensive than my normal mechanic. he is on vacation for the next 3 weeks so i'm stressin just a bit.

That is how I felt with my car. My suspension was very tired, and the previous owner had put on some junky dampers, so I had to fix that up before I started the schools.Originally posted by Canatro

If I were you, I would buy the parts off the internet, and repair the car myself! The E30 is an easy car to work on since it doesn't have all the computer controlls and stuff. You can save lots of money by putting things on yourself. Mechanics like to charge premiums for labor costs. What kind of things do you need to have done? Of course, some things you can't do like alignments etc unless you have the nice equipment.
i would love to make the repairs myself but i have no garage, tools, or ramps. i live in an apartment in brooklyn....i'm lucky to get a parking space.
as far as repairs so far...timing belt, tensioner, water pump, rotor, and distributer cap have been replaced. problem is it still feels like is needs something else. there are a lot of rattles and what not mostly coming from the rear, must be somthing loose. the engine and tranni seem to be very strong. i think i need to adjust the valves for timing. other than that, i don't know what else to do. that is why i was going to bring it to the dealership for the rest of the "once over".
thanks

I'm liking the idea of driving school. The 325e runs pretty good, except for a 1st gear that grinds a bit. I think I'd rather take the 325e with an Ansa exhaust and a J.C. chip to driving school than the stock 328i which is running perfect.
The 325e seems to have a natural sporty stance and tightness that begs to be driven hard. (No sexual innuendo intended.)
Has anyone finished a driving school? Where are the best schools?

I recently retired my E30 with 266k miles on her, not because she died, but because i was finally overcome with lust for an E46.
