All right, now I am trying to decide between a Remus and SuperSprint Exhaust for my 318ti. I am hoping to get a few MP3 files on what they sound like. If you have any please e-mail them to:
OptimizingAgent@yahoo.com
In addition, fill me in on what you feel are the pros and cons between these two.
Thanks.

The Remus makes more noise, more low-end bass at low RPM, and a little more howl under load than the SS. The SS removed the tinny, rattle from the rear and replaced it with a nice subtle bass, but the Remus gives even more bass and a noticeably improved hoooooooowl while under full accel. Were I to do it again, I'd get the Remus.

The build quality on the SS far exceeds the Remus' tendency to rust like crazy even after only a couple months of ownership. Just a heads-up, our SS is perfect, and has been through every element possible after this crazy winter. My friend's Remus was rusting a month (!!! Crazy. I mean craaay zee!) after he installed it.

Ok.... there's always the talk about Remus having internal rust problems....Originally posted by empowerd
Bry,
I can't tell you anything about Stromung, but stay away from Supersprint! It'll rust internally and is way overpriced. The exhaust I've been using for years is Brullen (www.brullenexhaust.com) full stainless. Definately the best/deepest sounding system you'll ever hear! I'm using Genie Headers, conected to dual 2. 25" mandrel bent stainless pipes all the way back to the Brullen box (with a dual in-dual out HiFlow cat)
but this is something that i discovered on the E30 board posted by Randy.
BTW, i love my Remus... i haven't found any rust "yet" *Crossing fingers* but the deep bassy sound is awesome. Another plus is the big 2x90mm tips...
But Supersprint is an awesome exhaust also
Richard
I found SS for around $490
I found Remus for around $560
money wise i like SS.......hav'nt got to hear the remus on a 318 yet thou......
what about going to a local muff shop an having them juz slap on sum exhuast on there after the cat this would be bad I assume since i dont hear anyone doing it ??

slappin' on any universal exhaust would tend to lose horsepower instead of gaining hp. These exhaust companies such as AA, UUC, SS etc... tune their exhausts for the car.... thus universal exhausts wouldn't be recommended.Originally posted by Austin

Also most likely the outcome of the sound of an uni. exhaust would sound like a fartpipe.
Might as well be safe and do it rite the first time.

Isnt that what a Mozart exhaust is surpose to be now.. a universal muffler with pipes.. heheOriginally posted by Black Majik

I never saw or heard a remus exhaust.. its not a popular exhaust around here.. But through the years I've always heard people complaining about them rusting. :
The SS is quality tho.. very well made with gorgious chrome tips.. most companies has stainless steel tips that dont shine like chrome does. I really like the look of the SS..
Rich, u havent found any rust on ur exhaust cause u live in SUNNY CALI!!!(lucky lucky) LOL.. take that exhaust to the shores of NJ for a year and see how long it lasts.. haha..

Does your car sound like this? Here's Doug's 98 323is ECIS/Remus:
http://www.ziplink.net/~ctroiane/therip.mpg (1 MB)
The best part of this video is the 1-2 upshift. He'd had the Eibach Sportlines on it for a month with the stock shocks, and you can really see it bounce and travel on the hard upshift. Also, since my POS camera can't handle more than 15 seconds of video per floppy, I missed the best part, Doug dropped the clutch expecting it to spin out , but he has too much grip with the 18"s, so he shot into his driveway about 1000 times faster than he meant to.

I love my REMUS!! I think the sound is great, a nice deep bassy rumble at idle, throaty at acceleration and screaming at WOT. I haven't had any rust, I've had mine for about 2.5 years now. It's not too loud either, it barely annoys my girlfriend when cruising due to some droning. It is also loud enough and intimidating enough to rev at riceboys when you feel like kickin some ass.

Hey Chris.. .does ur friend have a Intake sys. in his 323is? Cuz i couldn't really hear the exhaust all too much cuz the intake was definitely louder than the Exhaust.... But from what i could hear it sounded pretty much the same. Your friend's 323 sounded awesome tho!
Many of the so cali people have heard what my exhaust sounds like... maybe if they see this post they'll comment about it.
Oh btw Chris... did u swap out ur B&B Triflo for a SS?
Richard
Doug has the Bavarian Auto Powerflo intake for the E36 328/M3 which fit perfectly on the car, and then he bought the heat shield somewhere down the line from ECIS. From the front there is very little difference from my car under full wail:

Jess's original car, the 318i, was my baby/project for the past three years until I got my M3. She had the 318i, I had my Honda Accord EX V-6 which was nice but 1/4 the driving fun of the manual 318i, and nowhere near as good looking. I used to sit and read the E36 bimmer board all day looking for things to do to the car.
We dropped it off at Turner Motorsport last year for the suspension/exhaust tweaks, and that very day she broke down on one of the busiest highways in Boston at rush hour! Jonny Estoril (Vitolo) and J.M3 from bimmer.org passed her while the 318i was dying and said it sounded ungodly terrible. Steve Turbo ////M50 also saw her, and stopped to make sure she was alright (nice guy). The clutch was gone, and she was lucky the tranny was okay because she wasn't.....gentle trying to get into gear.
The SS sticker came from Seedster's car, or at least what I now know was Seedster's car. I was on the E36 board at bimmer and saw a pic of his car, looked good, so on it went. As for me, well, I'll give up the Triflo when I give up breathing - I'm trying to get jess to get one on her TT225, because it rocks the house, but she's not into setting off car alarms (my guilty pleasure).

hehe chris... funnie u mention the supersprint sticker off Saeed's car...
When i was a newbie and i saw saeed's car i thought the car had a minor "love tap" to it.... i asked him if there was a "rash" or something on the car to later find out it was a Supersprint sticker....
The SS exhaust is nice... but looks a lil' small in the picture. Still one of my favorite things bout' the remus tho is the fat 2x90mm tips.
oh... did ur gf get rid of the 318 or does she still have it?
Richard
Doug and I call them "the bombs," the "shotgun barrels," and lately the "Booyah cannons."

Jess kept the 318i because there was so much work done to it. She's using it as an AutoX car for at least another year/season (summer), and in the meantime we're looking into options for turning the TT into something nasty. It is a refreshing change to be looking at serious HP gains with a chip instead of getting nothing but a raised rev limiter and like 2 HP (oooh) - instead the chip alone yields 25 safe HP! Compared to chipping a NA BMW, that's the promised land!
