They don't have enough torque to crack a subframe.

    Well, the Z4 has a 3.0 L motor so there's enough torque.

we won't know until people start to seriously track the car - BUT, I bet TCKline would know. And since I don't think they've released any "subframe" mods, I would bet "no".

Give me one with for a day at the dragstrip with some serious tires. We'll find the answer.

They never really fixed it or admitted it with the Z3 cars.

The Z4 is a totally new car, so, it's apples and oranges as far as "fixing" it.

I wouldn't say that. If the Z4's sub-frame doesn't fall apart as it does on Z3s then I'd say they fixed the problem. But, since it is a "totally new car" then I might be inclined to say the Z4 might have "totally different and severe design flaws."

But the real question is whether or not the Z4's sub-frame falls apart like it does on the Z3. I'm guessing there isn't enough data as of yet to say one way or the other.

Yes, a fresh throw of the dice.

E36 3 series have some issues as well. BMW's engineering rep exceeds the need.

They build really sweet engines. Kinda "spotty" on some other stuff.

The Z3 rear suspension design was based on the old E30 platform, which really never saw any big HP motors from the factory... until the MZ3s were released. The Z4 rear suspension is all E46, so if they're not cracking subframes, the Z4s shouldn't either.

well we will sure find out once the ///M comes out...if the subframe doesnt crack then, you can be pretty sure that your 3.0 never will

Actually, I've heard reports of higher mileage e46 subframe issues similar to what the e36 experienced.

if people are pretty high mileage already, I would estimate it was alot of highway miles and not a car that gets auto-xed as much or dirven hard, but there is prbobably at least 1 person out there that drives it hard that has racked up some miles.
