Mine came on a few years ago. I immediately took it to an independent shop who told me it was the seat belt pre-tensioner. I had it replaced for $500. A week later it was on again. I took it back to the same shop and was told "Oh, it must be the wiring harness under the seat." Another $500 later and the light is still on. I had another mechanic (whom I trust) scope it. His opinion is it's the sensor pad in the passenger seat. I haven't done the work yet, but that's the last piece of hardware that hasn't been replaced yet, so I'm banking on this being the issue. If that doesn't fix it, then f--- it, I'll remove the warning bulb (or wait until it burns out)!
My code reader told me specifically that it was the seat pad sensor.

I've got one of them V57 SSS NPA blah blah ones I scored from a forum member. On its own laptop and all.

Anyone still on this thread?
I know lots of folks have seen various combinations of this, but wondering if this looks familiar...
My light came on after there was a water leak on the passenger side. I used the Peake tool and got the following codes:
1A: Occupant Detector
15: Sensor, side airbag, right data line
03: Supply voltage
F0: <Not sure what this is>?
11: Seat belt buckle switch, passenger
I tried cleaning the tensioner connectors like some have suggested, but didn't fix it. Should I be looking at a new airbag ECU module? Try cleaning the contacts again?
Thanks!
F0 is control unit fault. If the control unit was exposed to water id start by replacing it. They dont tolerate water very well. After that recheck the faults and see if any of those other ones return.

OK. Good to know. Thanks for the input. I've ordered a used controller from eBay. I've heard they have to be programmed, but maybe not since it was used?
OK,
I've replaced the SRS control unit (center console) with a used one. After resetting the light, it's still on, but now I get different codes from the Peake tool. First of all, I don't get a table number like the tool says I should, but the numbers I do get are:
03
84
81
Like I said, since it's not giving me a number for a table that match any in the manual, I'm not sure how to interpret these. Thoughts?
Thanks!

The recall may address the light-on issues too, if the BMW dealer wants to. My local dealer in New London, Connecticut, tells me to take a hike.... unless I can show them I either bought the BMW from them, and -or, that I am the first original buyer from a USA BMW dealer with a letter of recall for this car...I'm a second owner!

That's right. The used module is from an e39, but the description is as follows:
BMW 5 series E39 CONTROL UNIT AIRBAG SIDE MODULE Software V 3.7 ECU MRSZ4/16SB
Does this mean my airbags will not deploy in an accident?
Also, as another data point, the passenger seatbelt warning light no longer comes on when a passenger is seated without the belt on. I suspect these issues are related. This was with the original srs ecu as well.
Check the B800 scan tool out, here's the tool in action on my E39
I know this is a well known issue, but luckily i never had this problem, except once i had to replace the small wire with the orange or yellow tip that goes onto the seatbelt trensioner, earlier today i went to pickup a friend who is BIG, like 6ft+ tall and 100kg+ heavy, once he sit on the seat, the light went on and stayed on... i will visit the dealership to reset it on monday, but until then, do you have any clue why this happened?
I have this problem now as well. The airbag light is on, but I think it is the seat mat sensor. Thanks for the tips guys. Will let you know what I find out.
The PA Soft 1.4 software and connector from Xcar360 (https://www.xcar360.com/bmw-scanner-...de-reader.html) will allow you to determine the faulty part. I run mine on a laptop with a Windows XP virtual machine, and it works well and reliably.
If it is the mat, the bypass is an option. There are a lot of threads discussing the bypass and possible pitfalls.

Do you still have the bypass module for sale?

After replacing seat belt receiver on the drivers side, my code gadget said not enough voltage to the airbag system. I cleaned off all the main - grounds. Still not enough voltage. I THEN CLEANED OFF ALL THE CORROSION OFF MY FUSES. THAT FIXED THE PROBLEM. MY BIMMER IS A 2001 and cleaning off the fused seem to make it run better. Also had a problem with blinking low beams. It fixed that problem also. Hope it works for you!
