Please help me put an exhaust system together...

I need free flowing headers, cats and of course the muffler for my 98 M3 (Everything street legal).

My requirement is that the exhaust shouldn't be loud. As close to the OEM as possible while giving me performance improvments.

I don't want the car to sound "ricey"

Also, if you could please tell me where I can get the best prices or if someone is selling one, that would be helpful.

Thanks and appreciate all your help.

not sure about the pricing, i picked my Supersprint off a good buddy of mine. sound is slightly louder than stock, with a nice tone. generally a little on the expensive side new though. but fitment and finish is amazing.

ive heard good things about stromung too!!

    good luck

supersprint headers w/ center resonator and either SS catback or stromung. (i've heard the stromung has a perfect fit and is LIGHT, which is a nice advantage over SS).

If I get Track Mid-Pipes and Track Headers, do I need a cat or not.

    Will it pass inspection ?

    Thanks.

Yes, you need a cat. It is illegal to remove your cats, and you will fail inspection without them.

My vote is to pick up a Borla cat back. Cheap, light, and great sounding. Not too loud.

My car was rear-ended some time ago. No body damage...only the fender.
But, my cat was apparently crushed and the whole exhaust system sits 3" lower now.

According to my mechanic, the cat needs to be replaced. Now since my car will already be in the shop, I am thinking of doing some basic mods to get some more horses.

So I thought, why not change the exhaust, get a cold intake and shark it

Sorry for my ignorance guys, I don't know much so suggestions are welcome and appreciated.

    JV,
Does that mean, that all pipes & cat backs are illegal on the street ?

    Thanks.

You do need cats to pass emissions. I plan to do a full exhaust whenever I get money because I know someone that will pass me anyway.

Cat-back pipes are legal and fine. I said you need a catalyst to be legal. Meaning replacing your cat with a straight pipe would be illegal and would not pass inspection.
