Okay, so I turned the car on yesterday and my climate control is wiggin out. Its randomly going up in fan speed and down, display is bright one sec and then dim the next. Car feels as though the AC is on put the button isn't illuminated... etc etc you name it - it happened.
I just turned the fan off... anyone ever had any issues similar to this and if so what direction did you/repair shop go in getting it fixed?
Thanks
Cliff
I think there will be a recall on the controller soon. Just about everyone I know is having problems with theirs. Just go to the stealer and buy a remanufactured unit. It runs about $280 and is a easy swap. shouldn't take more than 10 mins. All u need is a pair of very fine needle nose pliers to take the face off and a philips screwdriver to remove the old fan.

Yup - I just replaced mine this week. Cost me $250 with CCA discount. One thing, though - you'll have to have the new unit "coded" after install or it will read in Celsius instead of Farenheit. I think the $tealer charges an hour of labor to do this (ouch, no lubricant?). But it will work fine uncoded if you can live with the Celsius display. I will probably have mine coded soon, but I'm just happy it works again!!
Thanks all go see the stealer... anyone have a part number?

Do you know the correct name for this part? And, where is it located? Thanks - Jay
BMW calls it a "RMFD CONTR", which I assume means "remanufactured controller". What you get is the entire unit in the dash, minus the little fan and buttons. You'll have to re-use your buttons and fan. The old unit pops right out of the dash. You can swap the whole thing out in under 10 minutes.Originally posted by LUNI2NZ

Thanks for the help guys.
I decided to turn the fan off since it was annoying.. well I noticed today as I sat at a light that it seemed as though the AC unit was on... essentially I felt it engage. My concern as I wait for this bloody part which I hope will correct my issues. So if the AC is essentially on but not blowing air will that cause any issues? I can't get the digital display to do anything anymore (yes I checked fuses etc) its dead.
I'm wonder by not blowing air over the cooled condensor if it will freeze it thus adding to my woes?
Thanks
Cliff
Thanks again. BTW, I'm looking for someone in your area that stocks SA rated helmets. Specifically Bell or Simpson. Got any tips for me. I may take a drive down if I can find a place where I can try them on. Thanks - JayOriginally posted by tmink

If its totally dead, check the OBC fuse to see if its blown. There is a couple fuses in teh aux fuse thing under the drivers side behind the kick panel with a few relays and stuff. Blew mine and it took me forever to find it. Just call it luck I saw it when installing my speakers.

White is Right, Steel Grey is OK, but Estoril is the only color that truly matters.
I like Coupes.
Oh damn... found one in Texas and Montana... thats it as per BMW parts... sheesh.
So do I have to have it installed by the dealer, or at least "programmed" by them?
Thanks
Cliff

I know who I can ask, but he's up at Thunderhill today. I'll ask him later when he gets back and post the info.
Thanks - I found one out of Texas and they gave me a great deal on it - $245.00 plus $20.00 to ship overnight. Works for me.
Thanks for all the help.

Thanks Tom. I'll keep an eye out. JayOriginally posted by tmink

Hi there,
I have the same problems....but it is not the climate control unit...it is the main wiring connector that connect to it. You need to open up the connector (Just slide out the white part from the blue housing), and push on the metal spring at each wire. This will ensure that it has proper contact with the pin when connceted to the climate control unit.
Please try this first before buying a new unit.
Cheers
