I have the original wheel and tires size that came from the factory. I would like to upgrade. What is the best modern wheel and tire size that will work? My car (88 M6) has the Dinan stage 1 suspension, so I believe it is a little lower than stock. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
What tire size came from the factory?
I read in a book about the history of BMW racing that they raced them with 16s.
I replaced my TRX wheels and tires with 16x8 BBS RXs and Dunlop Sport A2s. But I am more interested in mileage than performance. Still, the Sport A2 holds well. I have thrown her into some curves going over a hundred with minimal complaint.

i see your in Katy, miller's burgers still there on hwy 6?i lived there in S.W. houston for 12 yrs.,close to Sugerland.
245/45/415 TRX's were the stock size for M6's. 225/45-50/390's were stock "sport" options for the regular 6 series cars.
Problem with these is that only coker tire (in chattanooga) makes them now and I think they want 280 a corner. Besides that they are outdated technology in terms of traction an longevity; not to mention Road noise. Sounds like a truck tire.
Lots of folks go with either 16's or 17's 225/50/16's is a perfect stock match in terms of previous tire size; I run 245's at the moment. But am thinking of swapping back to 225's here soon (tread almost gone due to drivers school at Barber Motorsports park )
some folks Run 17's - and I can't remember the right size - but a close match to original rolling diameter is possible.
18" is about as big as you can go without looking too ghetto IMO. anything larger overpowers the car. (again, IMO)
M6 - fixing it I don't
