I'm curious to know how many miles you've put on, or know someone who put an extremely high miles on the M42 engine.
My car is fast approaching 100K, and it is still bulletproof. I'm convinced that it will go way over 200K (regular maint. - natch). But got me to thinking if anyone else has gotten that far with theirs. Let's hear 'bout it!!:

I'm only at 110K, but I agree with you. It feels barely broken in... I predict I won't have justification to do my M swap until at least 2 or 300K.....
Mine just rolled over 100K a few weeks ago. Like everyone else's, it feels and drives solid as a rock. I think the thing will last forever. Yeah 318!

I'm just about to hit 69,000 miles on mine. I'd have to agree with you guys though.
103.5k here
nothing to complain about.

about 83,700 on mine
I have 157k km so about 100k miles.
I've got 136,500+ ... I got her at 128k, that was last July 3rd.
It might go to 200k ... I'm a little weary as the little things are starting to be weird on it (headliner is coming down for example).

My sentiments exactly I told my kids that they could have my car when they start driving (about 4 yrs.), you know solid car, safe, great mileage, not too fast, and 10 yrs old (for those stupid new driver tricks that we all go through) .... but maybe I just reincarnate with an M swap
Who knows... I may go looking for something a little more stately... say a 540 - 6 speed
BTW - I'd like to see all your 100K+ beauties : here's mine:

78k on mine. Clean sounding and no compression loss or rattling all the way to redline. Not that I do that often though...hehehe!
280 miles -- bought the car new
82K -- sold the car to ex-brother in law
120K -- got the car back
127K -- wins first autocross in DSP
127K -- track day at laguna seca, time: 2:05
129K -- track day at thunderhill, time 2:26
Soon to hit 130K! When the engine was new I got about 28 mpg, nowadays I get about 24 with the JC chip and intake. The M42 does get a little jiggy over 7K rpms unlike BMW's I6s, but still smoooth around town. And I most certainly drive the it harder than I ever did now.
I'd probably have compression/leakdown tests done if I SC'd it, but it still uses less oil than my 86K old M3.
All in all, still a fun little car, GC coilovers & track wheels & tires inclusive.
Maybe the more difficult question:
Anybody ever hear of one wearing out or breaking?
(Not counting blatant abuse/lack of routine maintenance)
I mean, as many as there are out there, there's got to be some, right? But I've never heard of one... weird.
just passed 90k yesterday. at 90070 or so now.
I got mine at 20,100 a year ago. Bone Stock
I love my ti. I put about 16,000 on it since.
Shes been good to me
I hate when chicks say its cute though.
Dammit, its not supposed to look cute.
