I installed the bmp vdo gauge kit for volt, oil press., and oil temp. yesterday and tried a couple of power sources, but none cut the power to the gauges when the car was turned of. I tried the cig.lighter, the obc power, and the flash light power in the glove box. I would really like the gauges to turn off when the car is not on, but didn't want to wire them to the cig. lighter. light. which would mean they only work when i have my lights on. If you have any suggestions please let me know. Thanks
Did the BMP kit not come with installation instructions?
The problem is that you are tapping into sources that are hot at all times. You need to look for a wire that's hot when the key is turned to the accessory position. The Bentley manual wiring diagrams will help you find such a circuit.
E36 DIYs: Air Pump | Vent Gauge | E46 Armrest | SmarTire TPMS
E46 DIYs: Hella TPMS | Aftermarket Horns | Window Regulator Notes | Trunk Wire Harness | Trunk 12V Socket
Try the circuit for the light for the glovebox.
the cig ligher has power all the time.
u need a diagram.
worst comes to worst and u can get a diagram you COULD just run it direct to chassis ground and battery power and have a switch for them...
I wanted a month for them, called three times always got a different story, and then there was no instructions. I would not recommend buying gauges from them if anyone is considering it.
I don't have one but would appreciate someone investigating this for me
keyed source is at the deck for sure, o the glove box light is keyed too!
what about tapping into one of the power window wires?
(just an idea please test further)
--DrDubHold on let me get my laptop and read this on the toilet.
that, but im sure it will work because you can't put them up or down when the car isn't on. thanks

do you think you could help me install a pressure sender as well, or show me how to install it, without the instructions i couldn't figure it out. Or is this something I should get installed professionally.
