    any headgasket DIY guides out there?

    how hard is it? =)

    also, what is a reasonable price for a shop to charge?

    Its a farily involved procedure for most DIY folks. The Haynes and Bently manuals both describe the procedure fairly well. You'll need a special tool set, which costs in the $100 range, or Haynes tells you how to make your own (with $5 worth of sheet metal)
