    Tranny Compatability With E36 Z3 For A 325is?

OK, i hope some one can answer this question, well i bought a trany and was told it came off of m3. But... the vin # was still on it and i fugred huum car fax! So i found out it came off of a 97 Z3!! Any way got over the conector that conects the trany to the guibo/flex disc to the drive shaft problem. Every thing looks the same holes line up but i just can not get that last 1 inch gap to close up between the tranny and engine. Is this tranny not going to work with the 325is 94. engine? Or what am i doing wrong.

    Thank you

Well it depends on which z3 if it was a 2.5 it shares the same tranny ,S5D 250G, as the 325is. If it were an M they're different, though it might just be the gear ratios and not the housing I'd have to look into it more.

The ZF tranny that was in the 2.8 Z3 is the same one as in the M3. It should fit without any modificaions.

Well thats what i thought but.... yea it goes right on the engine but then when you try to connect the drive shaft the z3 thing with the 3 wholes that is on the tranny is bigger and does not allign so ok i put mine on and then the nut will not go in to big nut and the inside of that thing is to small so i had to shizle it in! ok that done have to ajust the drive shaft make it longer.. and then well i think its done but no the exaust mount does not bolt on ! so i had to fabricate a custom mount. will have pix soon. also by the way the shifter linkage to short had to cut and add a piece so not so easy buddy..

Glad it has worked out for you, albeit the fabrication you had to contend with. I especially like the 'shizle it in' reference

Sounds like a lot of shizle. I think I'd start with the right transmission.

98 ///M Roadster - Sharked, FDK, twin Magnaflows, UUC Stage II Flywheel, OEM M5 Clutch, UUC TME Red & Enforcers, Zimmerman rotors, Cosmos CAI, ProjectorZs w DDE, 6K HIDs, fatter rubber on the corners, UUC Underdrive Pulleys, and Stewart High Performance water pump

Fo shizzle my nizzle. Dont worry buddy, we all make spelling mistakes, no biggie.

I'm glad you got it to work. I dont see why it was so difficult to do it though...I figured any e36 tranny, Z or not, would work with any e36.

    yea....

if you don't have to install anything else just the tranny lol but if you want to drive than its not easy. shifter, back up switch, exaust hanger, driveline, and more are not identical and need customazing
