Taking out door speaker grills

Can it be done without taking the door panel off?

no, you have to remove the panel

Correct. But getting the door panel off is not that difficult, and once you do, you'll be so impressed with how easy it is to remove the grills - just unscrew the retaining rings and bim bam boom - done. Took me about 5 minutes.

How do I remove the door panel?

remove the 2 caps right behind the door handle, under there are 2 torx screwss. remove the little badge that say airbag next the the airbag, under there is another torx screw. reomove the door lock knob. I usually start to pull on the panel at the top just enough to get my hand in the upper side corners and work my way down, the panels are held in by plastic clips.
