Water Pump and Fan Delete install

I am going to be doing the fan delete/water pump/tstat install tomorrow and I was wondering if anybody had any useful tips they could give me. From what I hear it's pretty straight forward and easy to do. I was just wondering if the Fan Clutch tool is needed or will a large screwdriver work? Thanks for the help

for the fan clutch, all is needed is a big ole' flathead screwdriver and 32mm wrench.

heres a link for water pump install: http://www.logun.org/waterpmp.htm

    and thermostat housing: http://www.logun.org/therm.htm

Make sure you put the thermo in with the arrow up and the o-ring after the thermo or you'll leak and have to do it again like me.

    Cheers.

Man I love those RX's. You can also use a large hex key instead of the screwdriver...and remember the bolt on the fan clutch is reverse thread...to loosen it just give that wrench a hard tap with a hammer.

When you get fed up with the screwdriver/wrench trying to break the fan clutch nut loose, just put your big 32mm wrench on it, tipped towards the passenger side, and smack it firmly and quickly with a hammer towards the driver's side. It will come loose.

Ditto....forget using the screwdriver, just hit a 1.25 in or 32mm wrench with a rubber mallet and it will come right off.

yeah i started trying to do it this morning and realized i didnt have a 32mm wrench i could have sworn I had one. So i just used an adjustable wrench but it was a PITA to fit on the Fan Clutch bolt. I then got fed up with the screwdriver thing and I have to go to work now anyway so i will try that hitting the wrench with a hammer tomorrow. Thanks for the help

no fan can resist my homemade fan tool...

i ended up making this after trying all other methods in the book with no results on a very tight fan. fan was off in under a minute with my new tool.

Why don't you make a few of them and sell them to people on here?

Use a 1 1/4 inch wrench, they are much easier to find. This will fit on the fan clutch and then just give it a good hit with a mallet and it should come right off after that. I used this method and on the first hit, not swinging very hard it broke loose.

do you have the dimensional specs on the hole pattern? If so, I could get 10-15 made at work very easily.

Sweet. Looks like I will be sporting my own custom fan tool for this next coolant job.
    Maybe I will chrome it.
Or I could have ///M laser cut or etched into the handle. This is what I get for being bored at work.

Wait how wide is it and what is the edge distance on the 1/2 holes?

Make it whatever width you want, although I would think a 1"x12" piece of stock can be readily had...I would think 1/8" aluminum would be sufficient as you really are just holding two bolts in place to loosen the 32mm nut. Center the 1/2" holes that hold the bolts, just make the 3/4" radius "cut in" centered on the 1/2 holes and 1/2" in. BTW, I edited that drawing.

The bolts are 1-3/4 inches apart on center. The custout for the 32mm nut needs to be at the center of the 1/2'' hole. That help...keep in mind that my drawing is not to scale...I did it in MS Paint

Looks like I should add a slot and this seems longer than 12"

    Looks to be 1/4"

I don't think the 10mm nuts are evenly spaced

This is for my 95, I don't know if there is diff in pulley configs. But I just made a mock-up out of cardboard and it fits perfectly Make sure the 1-1/2" R cutout for the fan nut is centered and extends to the midpoint of the 1/2" holes

Doesn't have to be, but could be.

They aren't...I used the bigger spread

    As I said, I made a mock-up, fits perfectly.
