Anyone put in washers as shims rather than use camber plates for getting more negative camber in the front?
What thickness of washer would use to get x degrees of camber?

Search..................... you'll find a ton of info.

...many have gone the home depot route; but you can call Korman or Turner...they have kits...
Here's some info i had saved from this board...
Shim Thickness = Camber Change
1.16mm = 0.5º
2.63mm = 1.0º
4.00mm = 1.5º
5.44mm = 2.0º
6.81mm = 2.5º
Stock bolt size is M12x1.75x20 (diameter x thread pitch x length) in
Grade 10.9 (or higher, never less). You want to use bolts 5 or 10mm
longer.

There is a lot of info on shims just do a search. Washers should work fine.

I have a question in regards to the limits of shimming.
as you know you can generally shim as long as there is tire clearance, however if you look at the bottom of the strut, where it meets the hub, you'll notice a metal guide pin and a hole for it on the strut. This is in the middle of the two mounting points. Can you Shim to the point where that guide pin does not reach or is not secured in the hole?
I hope you don't need more clarification?

I would say that guide nub is pretty useless. Once you torque down the 3 bolts that hold the strut to the steering knuckle, it ain't going nowhere, imho.

Use hardened steel shims and not standard washers.
Thanks for the info. I have new M12 bolts (25mm long) on the way with Grade 8 washers.
If that nub is useless I will add more washers for more camber!

any other opinions before I shim the hell out of my struts? is that guide pin useless?
Thanks again.

this thread is exactly what i was looking for.. was thinking about correct sided evo top mounts, and a few washers/shims to set the camber.
the nub isn't much use, i was swapping the shocks on a 3.2 about a week ago, and saw this didn't have the locating pin.

i think im going to be shimming my front struts to achieve some more neg camber for the track, has anyone had good luck with this kit from bimmerworld? also, in this exploded view of our strut/hub, do those 3 holed shims go right inbewteen where the bottom of the hub bolts to the hub near fig.3-4?
any kit will work, as long as they are hardened washers, and that you get longer bolts. I picked mine up from a hardware store.Originally Posted by toopercentmlk
your placing the washers in between the strut and spindle. giving the 'shimming' affect. the bottom of the strut will be more outward than the top giving you more camber. its easy!

not quite. the strut isn't moving when you add negative camber this way.Originally Posted by tatawaki
when you add the washers between the bottom of the strut and the spindle, you are 'kicking out' the bottom of the spindle/hub/wheel combination while leaving the top of the spindle/hub/wheel combination unchanged, thus more negative camber. the position of the strut in space should be unchanged.
