(not laughing at you, but funny post....)

yell down you can go through a hole under the carpeting below the glovebox or i think there is a space to go through near the steering column.
Hold on let me get my laptop and read this on the toilet.

did you have to drill that hole? and for some reason i cant locate that on my car althought i know the area right where the pic is at. I just wanted to simply run a thin wire (18gauge) thru the firewall. need at little more info then just a point tho like what do i need to remove to get to the hole and what not (if that makes sense). um yeah any help is appreciated though right now i just have some wires sittin in my cabin waitin to be routed.

I would say look for the grommet where the throttle cable goes through.
I think 18 gauge would fit.

From memory ( while back), there is a hole under the glovebox area carpet, against the firewall. You will need to pull back the carpet. On the drivers side there is really only two options that I could find. 1, steering cloumn gromet, 2. fuse box gromet (this will require you to pull out the fuse panel (in the engine compartment) to get to the wire).

    Yes
If you have an automatic, there's an oval-shaped hole a few inches above the socket for the clutch stop. I presume that it's usually occupied by the clutch hydraulics on a manual.

    Hole thorugh firewall

you should probably use an existing firewall hole since it's sealed with paint rather than drill your own.
Just tap through the existing hole's plastic plug.

Bass... Is that hole drilled, or does it exist, or was it used by a screw? Is it Driver or Passenger side?

passenger side footwell, up behind the glove box, all the way to the side of the car is a rubber grommet with a number of unused holes. easy to see if you look at it from the engine side. look under the "tray" for the positive battery post.

This is another option....on the driver's side, under the dash where the cables run through the firewall and into the fusebox, there are these round semi-punched divets in the plastic. I used a sharp pointed object to punch holes around the diameter and then used a tiny flathead to finally punch it out completely. I ran wires through there and into the fusebox compartment.

EDIT: Oh, the picture shows the sharp punches I made around the diameter of the circle. Another round untouched divet is shown below and to the left of the one I modified.

Sorry to bump this from way back, I feel it may possibly help others. I just wanted to say THANK YOU, Argento, for your comment about the plastic semi-punched holes on the plastic behind drivers side footwell.

Spent a LOT of time trying to get a wire through the factory harness opening on my 2001 Z3 but just wasn't going to fit, and I didn't want to damage anything. (Basic dashcam fuse-tap type application.)

Almost through in the towel until I saw those punches and found your post. I'll be cancelling my installation appointment and spending more time with my family flying in for Thanksgiving. Thanks a million sir.
