Engine noise through speakers... WHY? how to fix?

I am getting engine noise (whistling) through the audio speakers in my 535 I just sold. The guy is flying out and driving it to Seattle, so I would like to fix it for him before he gets here.
    How do I fix it?

    you guys rock!

E34 I presume? E28, E34, either way, fixing your ground should help or even solve the problem (on a stock setup). Larger awg (14-16) wire and a better location should do it, do it at the radio first, then the amp. If you are in a real hurry I would even say a T-Tap could be used. Not reccommending it, but I don't see why not.

Just out of curiosity, what's physically going on when this happens? Is the ground voltage varying with the movement of the engine?
